Just saw a range of dates show up for United from Los Angeles LAX to Tokyo Haneda or Narita on Google Flights
Departing Feb 5 - March 5 (range of dates)
Returning Feb 7 - March 1 (and a few other dates here/there till mid-April)
I used a sample date of Feb 5 to Feb 17, $587 is the total and allowed me to select seats + has 2 baggage allowance. I would also earn 490 Premier Qualifying Points on this, so the flight is not Basic Economy fares.
Good deal if you want to go to Japan in winter, perhaps even a snowboard trip to Hokkaido.

Economy Plus is available for purchase as an add-on, you'd get either an exit row/bulkhead seat with more legroom, or something in the front of economy with more legroom/recline.
This is infinitely better than Southwest. Premium Economy (Premium Plus) is usually 2x the cost of regular economy, but with this deal it is closer to 3.5-4x the cost. Whether you want to splurge for the upgraded service is up to you, I just flew Premium Plus LAX/HND a week ago and for some it is worth it, in my case it was a play to try to get a Polaris upgrade via miles.
ultimately the comfort question is up to you, there's a lot of reviews comparing UAL vs AA vs DAL vs ANA vs JAL vs SIA economy class seats.

It's still good to go and I was mostly in Tokyo and Kyoto. 2 weeks. 5 days in Kyoto with one spent at Nara to see the largest wooden structure in the world and the bowing deer. It actually snowed in Kyoto on the 2nd day we were there but it was one of those extremely lucky days to see the Kyomizu dera temple while it snowed. I'm from Los Angeles and I can definitely handle the late February cold in Japan. I just wear a thermal, sweater then a jacket over. It's tricky because it can get cold so you cover up but you have to do it in the right number of layers so you are okay as you walk around and get warmer doing so, but it's super warm when you get indoors because of heaters in the shops and the trains. I recommend having a turtle neck and then a down jacket (which you can compress easily to take with you on the trip). If you're from the east, I'm pretty sure you can handle the cold well as it isn't in the extremes. Just don't go up north to Hokkaido or northern Nagano.

As for the crowds, it's mostly bad in Kyoto and Osaka (Dotonbori) but it's manageable during February. It's supposedly chaotic around Spring and summer time. We did Temple tours in a weekday, and then did a biking tour on a holiday/weekend. The small restaurants that can take in less than a dozen customers are very difficult to get into, but the bigger chains and restaurants in malls and bigger shopping plazas are easy. Going to Japan, don't get put off from going to a chain restaurant (a Japanese one at least). Chains are really good places in Japan unlike how we view chains here in USA (where mom and pop family owned restaurants are what we look for). Japan is just really awesome with the food. It's difficult to go wrong with your choice. Even the convenience stores have great food. You would be surprised that some vending machines have some decent food too.
