Your post reads like you've crossed over from humility to entitlement. No one served for free Applebees. Treat all of this like a gift you don't deserve and just be thankful or don't go and don't give your opinion. I don't because I find it too embarrassing to ask for the discounts, but that's just my preference.

I think a photocopy of your dd214 is all you need, the only thing that is usually asked for and the only thing that is generally accepted. If you bring it in when you renew you driver license (at least in FL) they will put a Vet marker on it; but that never works with most businesses because some state probably don't put a Veteran designation on the DL. So, with very rare exception, and not counting an active duty ID or retired ID; it is the DD214.
I know of no "veteran ID." other than the ID the VA provides for people who are eligible for VA healthcare and I have never known any organization to accept that as a proof of veteran status. DD214

I have the "Veteran" designation on my driver's license. Much easier than to carry around a DD214. Thank you for putting this list together.

i personally carry my VA id and have used that for discounts. DD214 has too much information to carry around and potentially lose.
