something is eating your ram up. shouldn't be running in background I guess. go to general/ and look up startup items. see what is starting as well upon login
That said, I'm still very happy with mine. I just have to be a little more mindful about system resources.

The main issue is the lack of true atom support. There just isn't any great modeling programs out there for it. So the system struggles.
Here's my 2 cents. I bought the base model of this laptop from Woot in late April. It was a sealed Apple refurb in the plain white box.
I kept the laptop at home at my desk. No food or drinks around. 2 months later the keys randomly typed by themselves. It was bad enough that I sometimes couldn't type in my login password.
I brought it to the Apple Store, showed them the video I recorded and they sent it off to have the top case replaced. I picked it up 2 days later. It's been 4 months and no issues since then. Luckily this was covered by the regular 1-year AppleCare warranty.
If you regularly travel with it or bring it to cafes where there's liquids around I think AppleCare+ gives you peace of mind.
Here's how I rationalized the price. The 3-year AppleCare+ plan for this model is $279. $30 cheaper if you're a student. The cost Apple charges to replace the battery on this 14" model is $249. If the battery health drops below 80% within the 3-year coverage period Apple will replace the battery for free.
My 2013 Air that I used to learn web development still gets security updates and works pretty well for being 10 years old. My 5 year old iPhone XS is just starting to show a little slowdown but can easily last another year.

Yes, you can claim the superior product updates for iPhones because Apple is the only supplier of hardware and software in iPhone echosystem where android can be made by anybody. Without Android, this world would still use Nokia feature phones.
debating this still, between a $2199 (apple edu pricing) for an M3 Pro with same tier specs (M3 Pro 12C 18GB/1TB), but it is $800 more
Of course its new, but this is a life lesson--maybe take that $800 and invest it instead and in 20 years if becomes multiple thousands for your retirement. If you have a Roth IRA even better.

Today they are all pieces of e-waste (even PC which don't have the supposed space constraints) and if anything goes wrong (esp the undersized soldiered serialized SSD) the repair cost is enormous because it's a module swap not fix the small issue.
Here's hoping the EU laws cause Apple and others to begin making e-waste modular again so the lifecycle can increase to 10 years without the cost of repair exceeding the scrap value.
