If you're looking for a basic laptop with enough spare memory and a decent processor to last the next several years of whatever bollocks Microsoft shovels into W11, Best Buy is currently selling one of the cheapest 16gb laptops I've seen,period. The 1335U is a 10-core CPU that launched earlier this year and beats the piss out of the AMD 7520U (oft maligned as a rebadged 5500U) used in the only 16gb laptop cheaper than this one at $400, the on-board SSD provides a fair amount of storage space so offloads to external storage will be less frequent compared to similarly-priced laptops or let you hose around with partitioning for multiple OS options if that's your thing, features a full-sized keyboard with proper numpad and uses USB-C charging. Fancy or powerful this isn't, but if you're looking for a basic but functional parent 'puter or are the type who likes to stay with laptops until they're choking on the dust of technological progress, this may be the cheapest option available for the capabilities in question.

All laptop hinges break, but this one's not made of plastic, so i wouldn't worry too much about it.
