If you want to play games (or emulated 3D games), best to get a similar mini PC using AMD Ryzen 6000 or 7000 to get the significantly more powerful integrated Radeon 680M/780M graphics (which performs similar to Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti to GTX 1650), compared to any of the Intel 12th or 13th Gen built in graphics.

There are several of these on the Slickdeals frontpage every week or so for $300-400.

Everything I read indicates Ryzen and dedicated GPUs are better for gaming, but Intel and their iGPUs are superior for hardware encoding, transcoding, etc.

Probably some lighter games, but something like god of war is probably bad times. I would go for something with dedicated graphics. I watched a video on it and it seems to run Switch games fine with a few tweaks, Wii and Wii U and ps2 games ran fine.
Look up The Retro Tech Dad on YouTube if the link doesn't show.

how would this be for a basic video editor? would one of the Ryzen based mini pcs be better? or is the intel quicksync worth more than the better gpu/cpu on a ryzen 8core

The reviews are shady. There's a review in there talking about Dual ethernet ports, which this machine clearly does not have.

I am super out of the loop on PC specs these days, but can you link a deal for $300ish to a Ryzen system that would work well for basic 1080 gaming and PS2 emulation? Huge thanks if so!

I came here to suggest the exact same thing. At this price the AMD 6xxx or 7xxx are MUCH better if you want to do any gaming. If you are unfamiliar with these mini PC's, I would highly suggest watching ETA Prime's videos on YouTube. He goes over tons of these devices.

Actually, it looks like all the USB-A ports are 3.2. The graphic on the product page says so, and the port colors are all blue.
