Is this a good deal? Especially if I don't have space for a table saw, is this helpful to rip long pieces of wood ?

I can't speak to the Ryobi one, but yes, track saws are -awesome-. A lot of people use them instead of a table saw to break down sheet material, and then cut up the sheet further on a table saw. Due to cost, I just use an adjustable length (50" max?) clamping guide and made some offset blocks to get my circular saw aligned with the guide, but I've used my friends track saw on a number of projects and it's great (Bosch iirc, its been a few years since I last used it...).

Look it up on youtube, you'll see how people use these.

yes, if you're a home DIYer and don't expect professional grade stuff, i.e., adjustments will take more patience and effort, baseplate is engineered plastic so you shouldn't abuse the unit etc. you will be pleasantly surprised, especially at this price point. I paid retail day one when this released, and I'm happy with it so far. I too have a small shop and I have to say I use this track saw more often than my table saw nowadays.

Last thread for this talked about how it can't cut straight and it really isn't fit for purpose. I want a track saw badly, and I'm in the ryobi 18v system heavily, but this ain't it (according to previous thread).

Ugh. This isn't a great saw and I hear the tracks are terrible, but so hard to pass up at this price since I need a track saw.

Does anyone make a good track saw attachment for a regular circular saw? I have a cordless Ridgid 6 1/2" saw and it's been great for most tasks. To do longer rip cuts I've just been using a straightedge and clamps, which works OK, but it seems like having a track would be better.

I bought one at $199 over the summer when I saw it on sale (clearance?), but decided to return it before using it. I realized it just wasn't the right tool for my needs. At $130, though...that's...dang, pretty compelling.

1: So, the overall construction is a bit "plastic-y" and flex-y. I've seen a number of reviews mention that, when cutting through very thick wood (like slabs), that a fully-extended blade would lead to some blade deflection...and a slab is one of the first things I'd want to use it with.

2: The track-holding clips on the saw seem to not be very reliable when cutting 45 degree bevels, and this is again something that I would be using this for quite often.

But most of all...

3: The tracks. The thing for which I'd be using it the most is cutting down sheet goods to fit into my car, and sometimes that will mean making 8ft long cuts. The saw only comes with a 2-piece* 55" track, so that would mean I'd have to spend more money to get a longer track. And here's where it really became clear that this wasn't the saw for me. Ryobi doesn't offer a longer track. And, it's not compatible with any other tracks. So that means I'd have to purchase additional Ryobi track sections, which they do sell, but still only in 27.5 x 2 = 55" packs. However, that would mean to cut a 96" sheet of plywood the long way, I'd need 4 track sections. The reason I put that "*" earlier was because it's not really a 2-piece track. The track itself is in two sections, but then to join them, you need two connector bars, and then each bar has 4 grub screws. So that "two piece" track is really 12 individual pieces. And once you add two more track sections, 4 more bars and the grub screws, you're up to 34 pieces. And in my mind, keeping track of (and trying to keep perfectly aligned) 34 pieces to make a single occasional 96" cut just did not seem like a lifestyle I'd want to rationalize and justify because of the cost savings.

So at $130, I could maybe justify it. And I've purchased a "blemished" lawnmower from DTO, and it may as well have been brand new, and has been trouble free for a year.

I know someone who's really happy with his Kreg Accu-Cut circular saw guide system, though I've never used it.

Extra tracks. But no clamps. https://www.homedepot.com/p/RYOBI.../320745541
They're $10 less at DTO, so if you're already paying the shipping for the saw, may as well order them also. If you're willing to wait, you can probably get them even cheaper when they run another 40% off sale.

From experience, it'll take several hours to try and find how many degrees this is off and then be able to balance both sides. Once calibrated, you cut a straight cut maybe 50% of the time. Save some money and use a circular saw with straight edge or Kreg jig.

I'm confused now. Did you justify it or not?

I use this one from Amazon with my cordless Makita. Like it as it's aluminum versus plastic that kreg has. Allows me to easily break down plywood.

This is the one I'm looking at getting as well. Seems like it has good reviews and the only knocks I've seen are the caps that go on the ends/between pieces could be a little better and there's no left-right stop for positioning your saw, so you either have to dedicate a saw to it, or recalibrate it each time you use it.
