I was being charged shipping at JBL (despite it mentioning free shipping at the top of the page... might be a temporary hiccup on their end).
But Harman Audio [harmanaudio.com] matched the price and has free shipping currently.

I bought these a year ago for $200 a pair. I also bought the Monoprice T6 a few days ago and it arrived yesterday. I prefer these over the Monoprice T6 100% in both sound and aesthetics. Can't compare Monoprice to jbl sorry, jbl also makes some really really expensive speakers and these are a bargain. Will be returning the T6 tomorrow thank the Lord I bought it from Walmart and not eBay or Monoprice.

I have the A190s which have 8" woofers. These are a step down with 6.5" woofers. The A170s are only 5.25" woofers. These are a great price for a mid size tower speaker. I have a very large family room, with high ceilings, so wanted a bigger speaker. These should be good for a typical room. I have bookshelves with a single 6.5" and they still put out decent bass. Dual 6.5" woofers should kick out fairly good bass if you have enough power. I drive my A190s with a 110 watt receiver and they rock.

Harman Audio and JBL are part of Harman Group. Samsung recently bought Harman Group. They're the same company. Its the same store under a different domain.

I would guess the T6 especially in the low end, but there are probably some who prefer the sharpness of the metal dome tweeter on the A180's. I haven't found any direct comparisons and haven't heard the 180's myself, the only thing I could really find is this subjective comparison of various speakers including the JBL 590's.

Even though the A180's are rated at 6 ohm they do drop much lower. I would call them both 4 ohm speakers. The A180's measured 89.2dB and the Encore T6 measured 89.75dB. Many speakers today rated at 8 or 6 ohm are actually closer to 4 ohm.
