If you used these for front surrounds what would be reccomended you pair for center or rears?
I too have same question, can experts suggest?
I have seen JBL stage A125C, but it has only 5.25" woofers, I prefer equal or stronger than the fronts.

I bought these a year ago for $200 a pair. I also bought the Monoprice T6 a few days ago and it arrived yesterday. I prefer these over the Monoprice T6 100% in both sound and aesthetics. Can't compare Monoprice to jbl sorry, jbl also makes some really really expensive speakers and these are a bargain. Will be returning the T6 tomorrow thank the Lord I bought it from Walmart and not eBay or Monoprice.

What is your setup and what are you powering them with?

You have these black JBL's or the wood units? These black ones for sale here are a cheap generic vinyl finished cabinet. This is even mentioned in a few reviews as a con, but that he sound makes up for it.

I know taste is subjective, but it takes a rare breed to prefer the look of thin orange peel plastic over a wood veneer.

Still, the sound a speaker produces is more important and your input is appreciated.

These or a like new pair of Energy C500 towers? The C500 are $300. I know they are an older speaker but hard to find a negative review on them. This will be for my first HT, a 2.1 to start with

You're probably hearing at least in part that soft dome versus the metal tweeter on the JBL's. Good to have some input on a direct comparison.

Everything I've read they are both great speakers depending on your tastes. I personally picked up the T6's and do like the sound but I'm quite prone to listening fatigue so I've generally avoided metal tweeters. The last one I heard were the RP-600M II and unfortunately they would give me a headache if I'd listen for more than 10-15 minutes.

For a first pair of real speakers I'd try at least a few different speakers where they are easy to return and see what kind of sound you prefer.

Edit: One thing to note is that the Encore T6's will likely play much louder with less distortion given the proper amount of power.

At 96db the A180's are hitting about 4.5% of distortion in the 1.5khz range. The Encore T6 is around 1.7% (converting distortion attenuation to factor) in the 400-500hz range. Under 100hz the T6's keep it around 5.5% but the A180's are off the chart even at 86db so it doesn't look too good.

I have the A125C as the center and A170 as fronts. Paired them with Klipsch R-100SW 300W sub and Monoprice in wall 3 way surround speakers. Sound very decent and adequate for 16x20 dedicated home theater.

I bought T6 towers few weeks back from monoprice. I am using them with Sony DH540 receiver, yes you read it right. It sounds great to me. I'm using encore C5 as my center which I got from target deal. I will either get C6 center or svs center speaker eventually. Yes I was concerned too about all this 4 ohm stuff but I took a chance and I have been happy.

I plan to use another Sony receiver that has atmos but I have had good experience with the basic Dh 540 receiver so far.

Also I have had great experience dealing with monoprice team for return or refunds. No issues at all.

General advice for folks who go by reviews and others expensive setups. I have realized that what matters is what you hear and experience. I say that you might enjoy a basic mid priced setup of speakers more vs someone else's 1000$+ setup.

Bottom line go by your experience/listening experience and not someone else's expensive setup.

TG is a 4 ohm speaker. You're gonna need some serious juice to power them.
Just a quick clarification for others. A 4ohm/low impedance speaker is a GOOD thing, provided your receiver is rated down that low. It will pull MORE power from the amp vs a 6 or 8ohm woofer (which means, more spl!). This is ideal to maximize the power capabilities of your receiver or amp, as they can always output higher wattage the lower the impedance. Now, it may cause the receiver to run hotter (since it is working harder) so again just make sure you have a receiver rated for it. But it being 4ohms doesn't make it "need" more or less juice. It CAN help maximize the "juice" available from your power source though. For example, generally speaking, you need "more amp" to push 100 watts to an 8ohm speaker than 100 watts to a 4ohm. People get this reversed all the time online! It's confusing because lower ohms have a habit of getting things hot and putting receivers that aren't rated for it into thermal protect mode, and because of that there's been this incorrect correlation between low impedance and "hard to drive".

I was told that if I really crank up receiver at full volume, then I might damage my receiver. I barely go above 40% of max 0f 74 on my sony dh540. Max I have gone is 34 or so.

Also I have been checking my receiver to see if it has gone hot but so far I have not noticed any overheating issues.

You have some good points though.

Would Onkyo NR6050 be sufficient enough to power them up?
