people laugh on why i keep buying dvd's and bluray but truth is you should never solely rely on streaming!
same reason you should have at least 2 tv antennas around the house! if your internet is down for a week you need to learn how to survive and not turn into a southpark episode searching for "internets".

Just a heads up "The consumer-electronics retailer will phase out sales of DVDs and Blu-ray discs both in-store and online in early 2024, according to industry sources familiar with the company's plans. Best Buy made the initial decision to end DVD sales nine months ago, according to one source."

Here is hoping they have major discounts on everything (particularly Steelbooks) whenever that happens.

Panasonic ub820 supports every format including Dolby Vision and is by far the most reliable of any players. Your Sony will skip and freeze on 100gb three layer discs.
The Panasonic is also double the price of my x800 M2. I don't know why anyone would pay over $400 for a 4k player. I get that not a ton of people buy 4k blurays, but tech is supposed to get cheaper over time. I paid $250 for mine in 2019. it now goes back and forth between that and $350 frequently.

That's nuts to me. Unless everyone has gigabit internet at home, streaming just can't compete in quality with physical media...
It has to do with floor space and sales.

No, streaming is not as good in quality, and anything bought on stream can be lost when you die, streamer loses rights to stream, and you cannot sell it, but that is the way of the world.
Maybe when 8k comes out, no one will notice on TV or projector the lost quality.

Also keep in mind they will not return for same item anymore, only refunds except for certain items. So if you got a great deal but the car is cracked bye bye sale. Still probably be the same with BB because they just don't have the stock to replace them.
Yeah, and I don't understand why. It's absurd. If Amazon has the damaged item in question still in stock, why on earth are they now unwilling to do a simple replacement for you? It's bonkers. I have never in my life shopped anywhere, brick-and-mortar or online, that wouldn't simply replace an order that was damaged if they still had inventory--this included Amazon until very recently. I mean, that's just basic customer service for crying out loud.

Amazon is now utter garbage. I've been a customer for over twenty years (including being a Prime member from the very early days), so I can say from first-hand experience that they are a total joke compared to what they used to be. I'm done with them. I don't plan on renewing my Prime membership when my current year is up. I should have cancelled it years ago. And honestly, Amazon really doesn't even have very good prices anymore, relatively speaking, especially when you factor in that nearly every delivery is severely damaged and looks like it was run over by a truck when it arrives at your door. Unfortunately, with Best Buy no longer selling physical media starting next year, I'm sure Amazon's prices will only get worse going forward for Blu-rays, DVDs, 4K, etcetera.

I wish Walmart would get real and stop shrinking their physical media section, seemingly every other week. You'd think with Best Buy pulling out, they'd see the opportunity to pick up those customers, but nope, they just keep eliminating more and more all the time, replacing entire sections with Netflix-show-themed junk toys and all kinds of other literal garbage that nobody wants. I mean, come on; if people are shopping in the entertainment department of a physical store, it's because they want PHYSICAL media.

I'm really worried about what even the very near future is going to look like for physical media releases, especially their availability locally at brick-and-mortar stores. I, for one, hate digital with a passion. You factually own nothing, are entirely dependent upon having an Internet connection to enjoy your movies and TV shows, are at the mercy of the continued existence of whatever "service" your media is tied to, and the quality is far below what physical can provide.

Man, do I miss the days when I could just take a short walk/drive to any one of numerous local shops and buy any physical media release of any movie or TV show I could dream of, in cash, in person. Done. Easy peasy--no Internet, credit cards, or online accounts necessary; and I could hold what I was going to buy in my hands before buying it to make sure there wasn't any damage.

Things blow today.

In case this wasn't already said - Warner Brother movies expire their digital codes from the date the movie is released. Not when you purchase it.

Chances are they will be expired if it's an older movie.

Bought a few protein bar packs recently and all they did was slap a shipping label on it and shipped it out. Packing came damaged.
You do have the option to ship in a Amazon box. Not that would make much difference.

While 4k discs are great, you can also build your own legal, digital library. SSD and NAS storage is relatively cheap anymore. I'll subscribe to something for a month and make personal copies of things I want. It's not usually 4k quality if you want the ultimate, but it's usually at least HD. For those special movies, I'll often get the 4k disc. There are also 4k rippers that you could use and write out excellent quality h.265 or AV1 files in 4k.

For those of us with more flexible morals, 4k Remuxes of these same movies are identical quality with the added convenience factor of everything being in a single hard drive. $200 14TB hard drive will store over 200 4k 60gb Blu-Ray remuxes and with a little tinkering, you can have Jellyfin/Emby set up to watch these movies anywhere in the house or the planet.

There is zero difference in audio or video quality, only in the morals that the watcher has.
For the moral person - buy the disk and download the rip.

UB820 - that's over $400. Any reason why I can't buy a playstation and use that as a 4k player?

Edit: Cursory search reveals: Dolby vision (have a S90C, no DV there anyway), drive noise.
Seems like the slick way would be to get a PS5 - 2 birds with one stone.

I have both, synology NAS with TBs of remuxes and buy some of my fav movies on 4k disc to play on my panasonic UB820 4k player. Can't really beat the Raw file on a physical media via the pana 4k player.

All the ones I'm interested in show 3 or 4 dollars off. I mean it's a wonderful life for 21 bucks isn't a deal at all. It's been ten bucks before and I imagine will be again soon.

Considering the sale hasn't started yet, that seems normal.
