whats the point with the added risk of storage, loss, theft, commissions on sale when you can just pick a gold tracked ETF?
because it's more of a hobby than a sound investment strategy

Definitely not.

Especially if you want something bigger and 18k. Works out to $8/gram of completed product.

No longer a deal. If you want to make money on metal but guns. Good way to make money on your investment and if you are a prepper will me much more worth it than gold if shtf.

Preppers buy these with the intention of using them in post-society scenarios.

I can't predict the future, but the chart on gold prices looks negative atm.

Also consider what sales taxes will do to your investment.

If you want to invest in gold, I'd recommend using a fee-free ETF instead of buying physical metal.

If you buy this, you also need a fire-proof safe and that's going to set you back $$ you could have invested.

you find a local coin dealer/gold dealer, they will pay you less than what you bought it for most likely even if the price goes up. as it is you're paying a premium over spot price

physical gold is a bad investment.

Agree, unless you plan on investing several tens of thousands in physical gold, I personally don't see the risk/reward benefit or hedge opportunity to diversify a portfolio. Sign up for an exchange and purchase holdings there. Safer bet
Paper gold isn't gold. Not your keys not your coins. These assets are insurance policies in case s*** hits the fan. Possession is 9/10 of the law. Put a certain percentage of your portfolio in a hard asset and store it safely in case you ever need it. In the case of this gold a simple safe should be enough.

Ever heard of just buying ammo? Ammo has risen more than gold in price, and it's an actual useful tool. Your gold will be worthless if sht actually hits the fan. You can't do anything with it.

No Sales tax in CA. No one has a crystal ball. Physical gold is a long term investment, and many believe precious metals is the only safe investment, as US establishment does NOT care about deficits - one day the music will stop.
