My first one didn't last as long as I expected, and it was just flaking out electronically and it was super frustrating. I took it back to Costco. Costco rep informed me that I couldn't get a refund because I forgot all the parts, i.e. the refillable k-cup filter thing. She goes, "Are you going to replace this? If you are going to buy a replacement, save yourself a trip home and put the new refillable k-cup filter thing in this box, and then you can return if for a full refund." Excellent customer service.
The original one plus the replacement lasted 8-9 years combined. I bought my 3rd one from Costco and it is going strong after 4.5 years. I didn't want to abuse the return policy, paying for one every 8-9 years seems fair. Nobody expects them to last forever.
I have learned to use filtered water, descale regularly, and to not let it run out of water.
