I was taxed the full amount but wonder if it was because for me it was two separate transactions.

I got my credit then went on the app and bought the Spidey bundle. I was charged my total plus tax, and the gift card was applied to that amount and I paid the remainder with a credit card. I'm actually shocked people got it the other way but congrats to those who did! I wonder if I traded toward the MW bundle there in the store if I'd of only been taxed the difference? No clue, but happy either way. Hope it ships soon!

Thoughts on if I should trade in launch day disc PS5 for this? Unsure if the extra year warranty is worth the 100. Also, if this will have similar trade in value as slim later on when it's time for PS5 Pro or PS6, is it even worth it? Does anyone remember from ps4 and ps4 slim days. Already have a 1 tb expansion. Also, I will likely sell these games so not really worth the full 70 they cost. Thanks in advance.
GS usually bases trade values on body style, not model number. Launch and 1st revision PS5's are likely to get lower values than Slim's when the Pro launches. This makes sense b/c launch units will be pushing four years at that point vs. Slim's that'll be approx. one year old. Whether people like the older form factor and stand vs. Slim's crappy feet and upcharge vertical base, or the Slim's extra storage and USB C, etc. won't really matter. GS will be looking at what they can charge for older units with more wear and tear and what failure rates will be (since they're pushing warranties) like when they resell them.

I'm likely to get a Pro when they launch, and this was still a no brainer. Moved from launch day unit to one that's going to run cooler, has a warranty, and will hold more value for next upgrade cycle. New controller is a bonus. Sold COD III code, making net for the swap $60.

Edit: FWIW, if you keep your stuff on an aftermarket M.2 the swap is 100% seamless. Games on drive are linked to your account. Pop it out of current PS5, put it into the new one, log into PSN, and it works without reformatting.

Also sounds like an opportunity to renew your warranty.
After tax for a new console you're spending $100+.

If I trade in my ps4, that is working condition, and I trade it in for store credit for a new PS5. Plus, I am a pro-member. Would I get 44.00 for the ps4 plus an additional $50.00 total for $94.00 towards a new PS5?

This is just me personally holding off until more games get released, nice to see some deals on this machine but I've waited this long and am not chomping at the bit to play anything I wasn't forced to play on ps4 over the years. Wonder why the hard push for the slim model, looks like Sony could've offered more in the change other than saving itself money. Reminding me of a company called Apple who is very profitable and stingy.

I am tempted since I haven't bought Spider-Man 2 yet. So it may be worth the cost to upgrade if I was looking into buying the game anyways.

I do have a negative experience with my last gamestop trade in attempt. Years ago I took a PS4 in for trade. It was 100% working right before I left the house. I still had the HDMI and power plugged in. Somehow during them unplugging the HDMI and plugging in the HDMI cable they had on their tv the HDMI port got damaged. Nothing ever came up on the TV. I noticed the busted hdmi port pins when I got home. So all I got was a broken PS4 from them. I never fixed it since Sony charges so much to fix that it didn't seem worth it.

Umm how did you pull that off? I got taxed on the full amount in nj
My receipt shows trade in 407, then after that the new PS5 then taxable amount which is the full retail then my payment of the difference.
If it's incorrect I will call them tomorrow to fix because there's a big difference
Just called with GameStop to explain and they said it would be After trade in. Ugh. Can't wait to go back tomorrow so the store I bought it at can tell me nope
Another datapoint: used to be anything on "trade credit" gift card meant no tax. At least in FL, as of Sept 2023, no longer the case. The other guy mentioned no tax but was also in NJ... I am wondering if doing a trade in *AND* buying the console in ONE transaction gives you the tax advantage... ? Just food for thought. Good luck.

Trade in your PS5 for a PS5 and pay $100
No. You get a new console. USB-C, 175GB extra storage, smaller form factor, 1-year warranty, brand new controller w/ warranty and one of the two games if you don't have them yet. Make sense?
