Also sounds like an opportunity to renew your warranty.

No, not faster. Not even really slimmer. Wouldn't trade a perfectly good PS5 for a slim for any reason. The "upgraded" Pro model is rumored for 2024.

Not bad, but I don't necessarily see the slim as an upgrade over the OG unless you really want that MW3 code at a good discount. I might do something like this when/if a PS5 Pro comes along though.

Another datapoint: used to be anything on "trade credit" gift card meant no tax. At least in FL, as of Sept 2023, no longer the case. The other guy mentioned no tax but was also in NJ... I am wondering if doing a trade in *AND* buying the console in ONE transaction gives you the tax advantage... ? Just food for thought. Good luck.
I did it in one transaction and paid tax on full amount. I'll be going back to the store today to discuss.

Like another poster said, renewed warranty and newer console, new controller, and a game, for a little over the purchase price of the game itself with the trade in. While there isn't a "need" for this, if you were thinking of picking up the game anyway it's a good deal.

I also used my $5 reward from the pro membership, and you can add any additional rewards to the purchase if you have enough points to claim them.
Disregard

There's no reason for a Pro model this gen. They haven't even scratched the surface of taking advantage of the current models. Just a silly cash grab.

That sucks. Gamestop really screwing over customers to make more money. They're stealing the "tax discount" and making us pay for it I suppose. Also possible tax laws updated but it's unusual how it happened for so many random different people all at once? Idk. Just me. I'm using up all of my credit and closing my account. Too many games to be playing for good deals once or twice a year...

Same here in Texas. Paid tax on full price for a series X when I traded in a series s in one transaction last Friday.

From what I understand, it's a marginal upgrade, smaller console, smaller components, it may run cooler but do not quote me on that.

There is one drawback that may deter some people, the disk drive is detachable and you can buy a new drive if yours fails. However you need an Internet connection to verify the drive before you can use it. Could cause issues down the road, long after this gen is over.
I can't comprehend why people see this as an issue, if anything you're increasing drive longevity 2x. Replace drive right before they shut the servers down? You get an extra 5-10 years out of the console for physical media. Laser fails after that? Repair it like any other console disc drive. They're ALL paired to the motherboard nowadays - and no one has been whining about it until now - when Sony GIVES you the option to replace it.

It's a one-time activation people, modularity is the opposite of a problem.

*that said, the console itself is horribly ugly imo

Im sure they are waiting on GTA to drop to boost sales of the PRO as a bundled deal. Similar to what they did with Red Dead

Is the PS5 slim a better console? I know it's newer but is it faster?
Nope, there is no reason to get this if you have one already. Unless you absolutely hate how big the original is. That's the only realistic reason.

At that point your OG PS5 will be worth $100 less at the very least

So even if you get another $50 extra credit you still get $50 less overall

By that logic you'll already be down $92.50 plus tax when trading in this slim towards the pro, plus whatever amount they cut off the slim during the trade in.
