These have an excellent screen, keyboard and trackpad at the price, processor is good and storage is upgradable in the laptop 4 however the 8gb ram is awful and you can't change it. If you do very basic computing work and want a premium feeling and looking computer this is fine but you will quickly run into the 8GB ram limit even with heavy web browsing (tab switching lag, choppy scrolling)

You're also looking at a processor that's several generations behind now. It was technically behind as soon as it released which was a shame, I really wanted to get a Ryzen Surface but could not justify a premium for it. There's much better deals on non-surface models, or if you don't need the larger screen, look at the surface laptop go 2/3

I still use the Surface Laptop 3. The build quality is absolutely amazing. Have dropped it so many times and not an issue. It's great for basic office work and I work mostly in the cloud so no real need for much local computing power

The 2nd fastest Surface available after the Surface laptop studio 2.

3rd is surface pro 9

1400~ cpu rating puts it at the low-midrange of modern laptops.

E.g. Asus g14 gaming laptop 2000+ as well as amd lenovo yogas.
Top gaming notebooks 5000+

At the $600 level, either this for the weight/design/battery runtime or an entry gaming notebook for an nvidia and better performance heavier/shorter runtime.

This times 1000. And yeah, it may be "new" but only in the sense that it's not previously owned. This is a 4000-series Ryzen mobile processor. Since then there has been a 6000 and 7000 series, so it's already two generations out of date. AMD's mobile APUs had so much potential and MS really screwed up using them in their products. Not that they've done much better with their Intel-based Surface Laptops. I'd say that we're overdue for a refresh, but I'm afraid that they may have decided to end the Surface Laptop line in favor of the Surface Laptop Studio.
