Should be fine although they do get a bit warm. Nothing close to incandescent bulb heat levels, though. If it's an issue, they can be dimmed via app to reduce heat generation I suppose.

I have about 18-20 of these in my home including in enclosed lamps and landscaping line voltage bollards. Some in use for years. Zero issues. 26 other Kasa switches, plugs and other items...RIP wifi router 😂

Yeah, it's the Price Intelligence tool at the top of this page on the desktop version of SD that says these was $15 a few days back. Looks like these bulbs were posted as part of a previous deal on various Kasa items and it's pulling the $15 price that was for something else. Kinda like those Amazon pages where they combine a bunch of different products on one page and the reviews get confusing.

I've got at least a dozen of these around the house. Not sure if it's identical but it's the same app so I assume it's pretty similar.

I'm a big fan. Just check the actual wattage, some have "like 9w" on them and actually draw way less. If you are worried about brightness it would he worth making sure you get the same wattage as your current light bulbs.

as far as the actual app goes, I just used it to pair them. they work flawless with my Google home mini set up.

Huh? According to the price history, these were $15 all through October until a few days ago when they jumped ten bucks to their current price and now they get posted? What gives?

You can get a 4 pack of "WIZ" LED full color bulbs for $15-20 at Costco and they are excellent.

When I got these last time it was written on to not use in enclosed luminaries, I think because they get really hot. Does anyone know if it's safe to use them because almost all my room have those closed ball shaped fixtures.

Do they work with the kasa app? Or is there some other platform they require?

They require the WiZ app. A while ago there was a sale on the WiZ 4-pack bulbs, 4 for $10. I use the WiZ lights with HomeBridge, the WiZ app, and a few shortcuts using WiZ app integration for custom Siri prompts. The app is easy to use and very reliable. Via HomeBridge, it's pretty hard to get a hang of the temperature/color balance for tolerable scene lighting, but well worth it. I just tell Siri now whenever I want to change the lights in my apartment. Every light bulb is WiZ and I even got a WiZ candelabra bulb for the ceiling fan to be 100% smart. It has certainly made me more lazy 🙂

That being said, I also have used a lot of Kasa products, including a smart dimmer switch. If their bulbs are anything like their plugs and switches, they're going to be good quality. The app is great to use, although I think the WiZ app is probably more light-oriented. I'd expect their integration via HomeBridge to be similar to WiZ. It's a lot to set up, but the payoff is worth it in my opinion.

I also want to mention how nice it is to use the "Leave Home" automation within Home. Never have to turn off the lights when I leave, they do it automatically. I can add people to the Home too and it will wake up 99% of the time before I even come in the door. It's only the 1% of times that I catch them off that convinces me these automations are actually working 😂

I have these bulbs. I spent about $40 on them for a four pack about a year ago. I love them.

I'm only using two at the moment. I switch between the Kasa app and Alexa. No real complaints. The only issue I had was small, and it happened only because I changed my ISP. I do use a different brand also, Cync (I think it's made by Phillips), and it tends to disconnect a lot. I don't recommend Cync.

The Kasa app itself is pretty simple to use. You can switch between four set colors and a soft white. You also can choose a color within a colored spectrum, adjust the brightness, and set timers and schedules for lights. Currently, there are no themes (e.g. candle, party, volcano), and I couldn't care less. These bulbs run great!

Anyone familiar with the "newer version" bulbs with diagonal light-gray striping?

I'm just worried that they'll update the app in two years and only have it work with that new kind.
