My sale went absolutely crazy this morning. I had a mob waiting for me when I got there at 6:45 and it was 41 degrees outside. I hit my goal for the day before I even had my table set up. The sad thing is that I could've done double if I had the inventory but it was a slow shopping week so I did what I could. I had one lady who started off with a $60 order and then kept on coming back to spend another $5. She must've come back 20 times. A lot of people were doing multiple orders or driving to the ATM and coming back for more. Maybe I was too cheap or something. It was a normal sale as far as inventory goes. I took last Saturday off for Thanksgiving so maybe they were worried that I wasn't going to be there anymore.
I wonder if people are stocking up to give as more practical gifts these days. Or possibly for donations.

Fantastic and good for you! I always enjoyed having a sale go that way. I had folks that would have me hold an order for them while they ran to get cash as it was usually the only form of payment I took. And I would have my regulars that would always come back year after year. Some were so sure what I would say that they would reply for me. If someone would complain that they could probably get the same price at WM (which they could not) my comeback was always 'at least at my sale you don't have to pay the sales tax' and often a regular shopper would respond with this to a complainer. Always made me chuckle.

I've seen a snippet of the memo this morning, and there is a date of 12/14 on what I saw, but it appears there is more to it that I didn't see. I didn't see a date of 1/14, but it could be in the rest of the memo. What I saw is not mine to share here. If I get a copy from an employee, I will share the memo in the CVS coupon thread.
I'm positive that he said Jan but if it's Dec I wouldn't be surprised. Jan 14 is a Sunday so it would be the start of a new ad cycle. Dec 14 is a Thursday so I don't know why they'd start it then. I did ask about the 98% rule and he hadn't heard anything.

LOL
I didn't have any gift items that I can think of. It was batteries, detergent, honey cough drops, facial cleansers, lotion, and stuff like that. Detergent is red hot right now but only if you have the larger sizes. Nobody wants the regular size. I think that CVS started the trend with their 10/30 deals. Paper products, soda pop, and chips are also red hot but up until now I haven't had a way to get the paper products to the sale. I'm not giving up the soda pop and the chips and peanuts I kinda want but it's not that big of a deal. The surprising thing is that the Fusion 4-packs of cartridges didn't sell that well. I thought that they would be the hot item since razors sell for a premium now. On some things, CVS did me a favor by raising their prices. It makes it easier to sell my items. I couldn't give razors away until the deals stopped and then everybody wanted them.

I have to laugh when the YT sellers post their yard sale results. They do "get $300 of stuff for free" videos every week but then only do a $2500 yard sale for 6 months of shopping. I'm sorry, but something isn't right there. They should be adding another zero or two. They also have no idea what the value is of their products or even what they have. It's because they buy for the Ibotta rebate and have no idea about anything else. If I can't talk intelligently about every product that I have, I won't do the sale. I'm the best sales rep that the manufacturers have lol. One interesting trend I'm seeing is a huge backlash against energy drinks. Nobody wants that stuff because it's so bad for you.

.
Honestly, all those things you are selling could be given as gifts. Many folks are happy, even overjoyed, to get something they actually need and can use instead of some of the things that are given as a 'gift' and often end up being used once or twice or sitting on a closet shelf never to be opened. I've cleaned out a few homes after the occupants went to assisted living or died and there were always unopened 'gifts' found that they never used or really had a need for.

Many of these 'practical' items can make up a very nice gift basket or bag and many would be happy to receive them.

It happened to me today. Here's what I posted in the weekly CVS thread:

The ending of grace - for CRTs and ECBs - has hit my favorite store today.

They were fine yesterday, but not today. Rereading what I did see of the memo this morning, the bottom section states 'Key dates: Now - 12/14: System update deployed.'

For some reason, I thought there was more memo that wasn't on the screen shared with me.

Cashiers and supervisors do NOT have the choice to override the expired CRTs and ECBs.

In the last 5 years, I've been in the hospital twice for longer than 30 days and had my ecb's expire and taken a huge loss (in the hundreds of dollars) when CVS wouldn't help me out and extend them. Sometimes it takes a few months after you get home before you're well enough to go to the store. It's not like I had a choice about it. I didn't plan on having major surgery. CVS, being a HEALTH CARE company, should consider this when they make their policy. There are many other reasons why people can't come into the store especially older people. I get that CVS wants to get back at couponers for whatever reason but not everybody who shops at CVS is a couponer. A little kindness would go a long way CVS.

Yes, I lost some ECBs today that I probably won't get back. Many will say it's my fault for rolling the dice. Que sera sera

The most positive way I can look at it, at this point, is that at least I know at this moment what rules I'm playing with. Yes, they can change them again tomorrow, but I'll hope that I can adapt to whatever they throw at me.

I just wanted you to know you can tell your friend it is not January, it is happening now.

I do wonder how I am the only one to report this, especially on a Monday when many of us are using the last week's CRTs in grace. (And maybe there are other reports, I just haven't looked around at other sites yet.)

Maybe not everybody is starting it at the same time. I emailed my friend as soon as I read your first post and when he gets back to me I'll tell you what he said. I have no doubt that you'll be able to adapt. I'm the dinosaur. All of these changes have destroyed me.

The memo does say now thru 12/14. I know for a fact that at least one person in another area was able to use expired but in grace crts today.

I may not officially be a dinosaur, but there are people I went to high school with who are great grandparents already! I mean, they were all babies having babies, but....

So have the cashiers lost the ability to manually issue ecb's in any situation? What if the printer eats up your receipt? Do I have to call customer service now?

That's exactly what I meant. In tougher economic times, practical gifts are popular.

Times aren't tough. People continue to take expensive vacations and spend money on things that they don't need. As long as people continue to do this, inflation will keep on going up. The only way for things to get better is when people stop spending money.

As bad as things are at CVS, it's not the worst news. The Kroger/Vons merger looks like it will be approved in the next week or two. Kroger and Vons say that it will be better for consumers because it will lower prices. How exactly is that going to happen? When Ralphs bought Hughes and Albertsons bought Vons, those weren't positive events for consumers. We lost two great stores and we have less competition and higher prices. Ralphs used to be a fantastic place to shop before Kroger bought them. Now I hate going there. Ralphs had a great bakery but now it's just the Kroger junk. Hughes had the best bakery. Losing them was horrible. Albertsons used to be the place to go for everyday low prices but after the merger their prices went sky high. Vons has actually improved. The stores are nicer than they used to be. I hate to think of how bad things will be with Kroger running the show.
