That's really bad sales technique.

I believe I've said it before, my favorite comeback was always that even if the store's price was the same as mine (which I knew it wasn't - mine was lower) they would still have to pay sales tax at the store.

It's a shrinking market. I don't advertise the sale (that causes all sorts of problems) and people don't tell their friends (because they don't want the competition over products) so you'll gain the occasional customer who comes to your sale by chance but people drop out all of the time (once they have a 10 year supply of Tide lol). People also cherry pick. They know what's hot and what's not. You'll get stuck with the products that aren't hot (which is where most of your profit is) and sell the low or no profit items (like detergent).

Last week I got a magic $2 ecb on all of my cards. I loaded it and used it this morning. When I got home, it said that $5 was available to send to my card. $3 from the gift set and another $2 magic on every card. However, after I sent the $3 and $2 to my card, the $2 doesn't show up as being clipped like it did last week. When I try to use it next Sunday, will it be on my card? I saved the paper $2 just in case. I tossed the $3 after I loaded it. Was that a mistake? Thanks in advance.

I don't want to be bothered with doing it, but I do think you have to have skills to keep it up.

I don't disagree, your way of handling it is better, but I think the tart that comes across in typing is being downplayed by the personality of the folks saying it, and the people they're saying it to. Most of these people also know they have more potential customers than product, so if one really doesn't come back, they're not losing anything.

I don't want to do what you're doing, but maybe you should try to have a sale where you only invite new people, and change the dynamics so you become more of a driver in what is sold. Since you currently do your sales on Saturdays, do one for a new group before you start them back up, then do your Saturday sale with whatever is left over.

I know locally, I see people only offering 'bundles'. So you can't buy 10 Tide and nothing else from them. To get the Tide, you also have to buy other things. I am in a local FB group where some people sell these bundles. When someone pushes to just get a particular item out of the bundle, that item is priced just a tiny bit below the Walmart price.



If this happened to me, I would close my app and reopen it. If I still didn't see the $2, I would unlink my card from the app, close the app, clear my cache on my phone and relink my card. If that didn't result in me seeing the $2, I'd probably do all of the same and then turn off my phone, turn it on and repeat the process.

CVS' app is always questionable for some reason or another.

I looked at the new Vons ad and they're going to 3 days for the $5 sale rather than just Friday. That's an awesome change. I hope that it's not just a onetime thing. The 10/10 sale used to be pretty good but they keep on taking all of the good things out of it. If Vons would lower their ridiculously high clearance bakery prices then I'd be happy with them again. In a lot of cases, the clearance price is higher than the $5 Friday sale price for the item. It's very annoying. The prices on clearance went up after the CEO made a visit to the stores here. Honestly, they should fire the guy if he's that stupid. Let's take the 4-pack of muffins. Vons muffins are fair at best. They're certainly not to die for. They're priced at $6.99 now. Not too long ago you could get them 2 for $5 when they were on sale. Ok, so everything has gone up. Before the CEO came in, the clearance price was $2.99. That's not super cheap but it's fair. Now it's $4.99. That's a total rip-off. It should be embarrassing for Vons to price their clearance items like that. I realize that they want to give the clearance stuff to the homeless people so that they can make money on it as a tax write off and I don't have a problem with that but then eliminate the clearance cart and stop ripping your paying customers off. I'm getting all worked up just typing this. It really pisses me off.

I was going to reply to you with this exact comment before I got to the end of your post and saw that you have the same thought. This is the conclusion I came to years ago. I believe it's the main reason store-made bakery is priced so high to begin with and why they bake soooooooo much more than they can ever possibly sell - they donate the excess and take a write off at full price. And personally, even though I'm not a great baker, I have never found store stuff to be anything to write home about, lol.

I, too, have no problem with excess going to folks in need but it seems to me that there is always so much of it - where I used to live there was a store that had carts and carts of it lined near the exit doors waiting to be picked up by groups.

Since we can make one of those large slices last two or three days, and it's the perfect amount of sweet for the evening, that was an ok price. Then awhile back, they were tagged $2.99 and I quit buying them at that price. When I was in before Christmas, I saw they had tagged them at $1.99 again, but I didn't buy any because we had enough sweets at home.

But I also think SOME of the clearance tagging is just the whim of the employees, because at least several times there have been the exact products with the exact sell by date marked with two different tags. Either that or an employee put the wrong tag on an item and didn't fix it.
