I spent my morning at a store closing sale and I got some great deals but it also was very sad. We're in hard economic times. Stores are closing right and left. Shopping centers that once were thriving are now ghost towns. Companies are lowering prices for buying online rather than going to the stores and then they wonder why their stores aren't doing well. The billionaires on Wall St making decisions about our lives have never been in a CVS, Kroger, or Walmart. They couldn't tell you the price of a loaf of bread, gallon of milk, or a carton of eggs. They think Tide has something to do with the moon and beach. The really sad thing is that it will only get worse.

Agreed! I was surprised that our local Big Lots closed. It seemed that the "value" or discount stores were the only things thriving. I think the Odd Lot that moved in down the street a few years ago took a chunk out of their business.

There's a new combo store opening up in Park City TN that I haven't seen before. Store markings are half Dollar Tree and half Family Dollar. Green on the south side, red on the north side. I know they are owned by same company, but I haven't seen this before.

Interesting! We do have a Dollar Tree and a Family Dollar two doors down from one another in the same shopping center, but they've both been there for at least four years.

We had a Big Lots close a couple of years ago and the building is still vacant. The Walmart down the street also closed. Even the 99Cent store closed. Dollar Tree was busy before the pandemic but now it's slow. Nobody ever goes to Family Dollar. The last time I went, I was the only person in the store. Costco, Target, Ralphs. Vons, and McDonald's are always packed. I can't figure out McDonald's. Their food sucks and their prices are very high but the drive-thru line is down the block.

I've been to Family Dollar a few times. The closest one is an hour drive but I've never had a good experience there. They are always incredibly rude. I got Family Dollar and Dollar General confused in my last post. Dollar General is also an hour drive. That store is as dead as dead can be but they're nice enough. The only issue I have with them is that their products are all off sizes so you can't use your coupons but since we don't get coupons anymore it doesn't really matter. I haven't been to either store for at least 2 years so maybe things have changed. Both of those stores are new to SoCal and they did no promotion. That was the opposite of Aldi who had a huge grand opening event and gave out a lot of free stuff. At the time, Aldi was more than an hour drive away but I still went to the grand opening. Aldi has since opened up two stores that are very close to me. One store used to be a pet store and the other one was a neighborhood grocery store that was 50 years out of date but still fun to go to every now and then.

I live in the land of Dollar General. There are literally 5 stores within 10 miles of where I live. If they clear a lot in the county, chances are it will be a Dollar General.

DG is in the middle of nowhere. You really would have to want to go there and then you'd have to turn around and go home because there aren't any other good places to shop for 30 miles. You have to drive through a windy canyon to get there and it can be very dangerous at night so you'd want to go in the daytime. You can avoid the canyon but it would be a lot of extra driving. I didn't see anything there when I went that would make me want to come back and I didn't like that I had to bring in my phone to use my dq's.

That Michael Strahan line sure didn't sell. All the drugstores bought it and it's just sitting there on the shelf. I haven't seen a single one sell. Not one empty space. Maybe it's because the design of the bottle is so bad. It really is ugly. If they had come out with a Tom Cruise grooming set and called it Mission Impossible at least it would've been funny. .

I haven't seen it. I would guess if he was not dealing with his 19 year old daughter having a brain tumor, he might be able to advertise it and people would be interested. I like Michael Strahan and can only wish him and his family well.

That's too bad about his daughter. I wouldn't have made the comment had I known. I don't follow football so all I know about him was that he was a great defensive player but I never saw him play and I never saw him on the talk show..

I saw it one time by accident at CVS and the whole line was 75% off. It's featured in the men's section at RA so you can't miss it. I see it every time I'm in the store. The company that put it out did a horrible job. It doesn't look like a product that I'd want to own. Maybe I'm not the target audience so it doesn't matter. This is just my opinion. It's nothing against Michael Strahan. He seems like a cool guy from what little I know about him.

Bath & Body Works still has a selected items for 75% off available and they're not all Christmas fragrances. If you have the 20% off coupon it will work on these items as well.

If you're a World Market shopper, you'll be surprised at how much Christmas inventory they have on their shelves. I was surprised! It's 75% off. I'm hoping that it will go 90% in a few days, then it will be worth my journey. I'll call before I head out.

The continual snowstorms, icy winds, and cold temperatures hasve made going out too difficult.
