I'm sure they are starting to see subs drop after the awful 30+days wqit for refunds
I always use a Amazon gift card. Just reload your balance with the exact amount of the purchase before buying. The refund, for me, occurs when the item is scanned at UPS, and shows up in my gift card balance.

Not sure how that helps. If you used a CC, it would work the same way.
The amount you are losing (5% cash back?) makes this horrible advice.

Unless you plan on gaming the system on returns.
Again, not sure I am understanding your advice.
I think he was concerned about getting a quicker return. The gift card balance can be returned within hours vs days. It also depends on how frequently you buy from Amazon. It sound like it your case it would not be appropriate.
If you have an Amazon Prime card, use the points to buy a gift card to reload your balance "before" you make a purchase

With a GC you have no recourse if Amazon screwed you . With CC you can charge back. Also tgey just closed a loophole where you could use your gc credit to buy GC

That is probably one reason for the delay in processing credit card returns

I haven't had Prime for 3+ years and I get 5% back on ever purchase cause there are plenty of cc that have 5% back at grocery store (gift cards), gas stations (lots have gift cards), Paypal, or even Amazon itself.
In other words, every Amazon gift card I buy is bought with 5% back.
Longer return times and longer ship times. Things are going downhill for Amazon. I guess I should follow everyone else and suspend my Prime membership indefinitely too

one week of Prime for only $1.99!"
Prime us too expensive. There should be a basic version without prime music, TV, etc. Just give me 2day + fresh.
