Edit: tp-link has a FAQ page about the Kasa/Tapo integration here: https://www.tp-link.com/us/suppor...%20dev
Is Kasa being phased out?
No, there are currently no plans to phase out Kasa in the US. Kasa is important to us here, and we will continue to release new products to the Kasa product line throughout the foreseeable future.

Any updates on this? I think it was called Tapo*(edit) or something that they were trying to migrate to

i replaced my old ceiling fans. the new ones have LED lamps and are controlled by remotes. i'm already getting a Bond Bridge so my Home Assistant box could control them.
anyway, now i'm trying to figure out what i should replace the disconnected wall switches with. they don't do anything, so i was thinking of installing a motion sensor. Home Assistant would pick up on it and then tell the light to turn on. this is an old house and i don't have neutral wires. either Wi-Fi or Zigbee would do.

I was hoping for more flexibility using the motion sensor within the switch as a trigger for Alexa routines, but even changing the device type from a switch to a light didn't allow me the ability to choose it. I didn't put too much effort into it though as it wasn't a necessity for my space....so it may work with creativity.
I have around 15 other kasa non motion wi fi switches throughout my home and all work without any issues.
Must have neutral wire, but they are the same quality as the lutron switches I have as well at a much better price point.
Light goes on light goes off
Pairing is easy enough what is the point of matter, nobody seems to actually know.
I buy cheap house fires from AliExpress for $1.78 ( DIY smart switch and the sonoff basic clones that work with Tuya) all day and the pairing process with tuya is almost entirely passive
Without baby matter BS
I can't imagine what practical benefits matter could add

Also, I have several multi-gang wallplates with 2-3 light switches together, where the dumb switches didn't have neutrals, but I see the electrician has a bunch of neutrals all tied together. One time I was able to install one Kasa smart switch in a multi-gang box, but a 2nd one kept immediately tripping a nearby GFCI outlet - not sure exactly, but I think the neutral for the outlets was tied to those same neutral wires, and the stray current used by the switch was triggering the GFCI fault detection, had to remove that 2nd Kasa switch.
