Looks like a good candidate for a pfsense or a Frigate NVR.... Take the Wi-Fi card out and put a coral

I have the previous model of this desktop (AXC-703) with the J2900 quad processor/SSD/8GB RAM set up as a media/streaming computer. It has far surpassed my expectations as a low end budget machine and easily handles remote camera monitoring, many browser tabs open at once, Youtube and Prime video streaming, and all my online shopping and purchasing for the last 5 years with zero problems. These little Acers are very well built, and the Celeron processor I thought would be a dud has been a zippy little workhorse. I'm typing this on it right now.

I did this same thing then a few weeks ago, I bought BARRACUDA F12 Firewall for $65 on eBay brand new. Comes with 4 NICs. You can install pfsense on it. After using ESXI and pfsense on the acer, I found myself constantly interrupting the internet with reboots so I made it dedicated. Now I use the acer for light VMs and plex

Even cheaper this time. If my memory serves, it was $20 more last time around.

Is this powerfull enough to be a Plex server? I actually hardly ever use my plex server actally but I like to have it for streaming in the house.

There's a healthy discussion about this desktop's capabilities on an old post, including people using it for Plex. Here's a link.

Sure thing. But be advised, one of the attractions of this one is very low power consumption, which makes a big difference in 24/7 service.

I have the i3 version which works well as home server. Proxmox with plex, Linux file server, several other Linux containers, windows vm with homeseer and blueiris. Works pretty well, except blueiris is pretty resource intensive so I have to run the cameras at lower frame rates and not use blueiris's special detection software. For the Linux stuff this Celeron would probably do fine. I did have to Velcro tape an extra hdd into the case as there is only one hdd slot and I wanted 2 mirrored. I also had to use a pcie adapter for my second nvme drive.

I'm using one right now paired with an intel 4 port 1g nic for pfsense and it barely brakes a sweat works perfect and way less power than the old AMD FX box I had running it before. I upgraded the ram with some cheap ebay ram to 16gb which is way over kill....

Good to know. I'm moving from Netgate to opnsense and picking up small devices like this.

Can you supply the model of the quad NIC card you used in the expansion slot?

The link is dead, but this is the card I got a long time ago "DELL INTEL PRO/1000 VT PCI-E NIC 4-PORT ADAPTER EXPI9404VT YT674" does it post when you pull the card out? There should be plenty of power going to the pcie slot so seems odd....
