You're comparing a game console to a dedicated 4K Blu-Ray player. The UB820 has the HDR Optimizer and a better processor. Moreover, you get Dolby Vision with it. Don't get me wrong, the PS5 is great for most people. But a lot of 4K Blu-Ray collectors are enthusiasts and want the absolute best picture quality they can get. That's where the UB820 comes in.

I have a oled 65" with a 12 speaker sound system. I don't notice any significant differences between a 4k player vs a ps5 player besides cosmetics.
Have you calibrated your 65" oled to the condions where the TV is located with a Spears & Muncil calibration disc or similar? If not you are not getting the best picture from any source.

Yes the Optimizer & HCX processor is what separates Panasonic from everyone else.

Game consoles should be comparing themselves to the 420, it's basically the same player minus DV.

TBH the Optimizer does so well I'm not sure it's worth the difference for DV.

People are very content without it, Samsung is a perfect example.

Is there any new, latest and greatest technology this player doesn't support that one should if you are wanting to future proof within reason?

I have a TCL 6 series 65". It has DV capabilities. I also have a PS5 and a fairly substantial 4K blu-ray collection (about 100 discs). Is it worth the upgrade for my TV?

*Edit: Offer taken:
I just bought and got an offer to add a friend ("who hasn't shopped with us before") for you to get $50 off $250. If someone trusts me to send me your name and email, I'll enter it, assuming the offer hasn't timed out.

Thanks for this! Been wanting a proper player for my new atmos setup. I've also been wanting a CD player to get back into that, I wonder how the DAC is in this guy.

The UB820 seems to be the favorite of UHD collectors. I don't own one, but they often comment on larger data movies that other players can freeze or skip, whereas the UB820 plays them fine.

It looks like the player you get to fix the annoyances of the first player you bought.

anyone familiar with Gamefly 4k disk rental service? Good/bad?
What does this have to do with the Panasonic UB820 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Player?

I don't have any disks and don't plan to start a collection. But if I can find a good source for rentals, I would jump in on this deal for the player
