You're comparing a game console to a dedicated 4K Blu-Ray player. The UB820 has the HDR Optimizer and a better processor. Moreover, you get Dolby Vision with it. Don't get me wrong, the PS5 is great for most people. But a lot of 4K Blu-Ray collectors are enthusiasts and want the absolute best picture quality they can get. That's where the UB820 comes in.

I bought an OPPO UDP203 a few years ago and it is one of the best ultra HD players ever made. Unfortunately OPPO discontinued all their products in US market

I don't have any disks and don't plan to start a collection. But if I can find a good source for rentals, I would jump in on this deal for the player
They mostly have new and popular releases. Their bluray and dvd collection is also lacking. I now use 3d blu ray rental, and the website sucks and shipping is slower but they have way more movies.

Is there any new, latest and greatest technology this player doesn't support that one should if you are wanting to future proof within reason?
The best streaming service or app for your 4k receiver.. It's been said That 4k Blu-rays movies are being discontinued by major shopping outlets? I wonder if this format is going away soon?Just like VHS and many other formats that existed in the past.

I think digital hard drives are the last one's to hold on too for the future of collectors use if they can ripped them off blue rays disc. Damn I like my DLP receiver back in the day.

The UB820 seems to be the favorite of UHD collectors. I don't own one, but they often comment on larger data movies that other players can freeze or skip, whereas the UB820 plays them fine.

It looks like the player you get to fix the annoyances of the first player you bought.
True statement for most folks. My first X700 froze and I exchanged it for a replacement. Haven't had 1 freezing issue on a 100 GB disc since. With that being said this is a great price for the Panny.

No, this is as good as it gets. Everyone raves about this player in all the 4k disk communities.

The biggest complaint about this player is omission of SACD & DVD-A support.

No one really buys a player to stream, that would be like buying a game console to play movies! 🤭

All jokes aside maybe 8K disc but we can't even take full advantage of HDR now, not sure about 8K.

Who still uses Blueray player?
I had Samsung and LG 3D Blueray players but did not use a single time during the last 4 years. I have memeberships of Netflix, Amazon Prime, Max, Youtube and these killed my Blueray Players.
It's for the people with good setups that want the best possible quality especially on the audio, streaming is very inferior on that aspect.

For those who are on the fence....I have owned my Panasonic UB820 player for several years now and not a single problem! It has played all of my movies flawlessly. This is such a great deal that I just bought a 2nd one to have as a future back up.

I urgently bought a CXUHD(oppo clone) at the time right after oppo discontinued 203. CXUHD was discontinued 6 months later.

No longer in stock on ABT website, but they are still taking orders (looks like they have them on order or are getting more as the sale price is good through 11/26). A few left in stock on Amazon but probably not for long.
