I have an element tv that advertises itself as a roku tv but it doesn't have Bluetooth. How exactly does this connect wirelessly? Is it proprietary or something?

*UPDATE

So I was really interested in this and did some research. It turns out the roku tv uses wifi to connect to the soundbar. The main selling point of this is the easy setup which has been a personal pain point for me with sound bars. One major downside is the TV has to be on to connect to the soundbar with Bluetooth devices. My guess is the TV powers on the soundbar as well. $50 seems like a slick deal so I ordered we'll see if it works out well.

Reviews state this disables the onboard optical out once paired so you can't use both. Also can pair a sub but not also surrounds. And needs wifi.

I love my Rok boxes. I like my Roku TV. But I'm not going to buy an add-on that limits its usage. Especially, as someone else mentioned, to use this soundbar with another device (e.g., stream music from your phone) the TV has to be on. Huh???

Nah. It's not a saving when you're getting such limited usage and limited longevity.

I'm not defending this product as I do think it has plenty of drawbacks, but the user manual [media-amazon.com] only mentions that the TV needs to be on for the pairing of bluetooth devices, as it uses the TV screen to display information to aid the pairing process. I'm not sure if the TV needs to be on after that, and the sound bar itself doesn't receive power from the TV contrary to the comment above, however someone who owns this can verify.

That said, I don't know if this sound bar offers enough audio fidelity for use as a regular BT playback device, given its small size and lack of subwoofer. I also don't like the fact that it can't be used with non-Roku TVs, but it's only $50 so it probably meets the needs of a certain market.

I have a TCL 6th series Roku TV from 2018 but I mainly use a Shield with it. Will this work with the Shield or is it limited to the Roku OS? In other words, would the sound bar be disabled if I use the Shield? I guess it's worth a try since Amazon returns are easy.

I got this same deal direct from Roku last year. Set up was incredibly simple. Very happy with it, though my primary desire was for the sound leveling, which works great. There was a Roku update at one point that caused the sound leveling to be reset every time the TV was turned off, but it has since started behaving again. Great value for the money.

One market I can think of is people who have televisions in their bedroom and need the sound projected toward them instead of through their bedroom walls. It can be useful in a case like that.

I hate being that guy but I'd rather have the DTS on a 2.1. The point of Atmos is encapsulating immersive sound from each direction. It requires a 5.1 system as it needs to have upward firing speakers to bounce the sound off the ceiling, or from behind.

Bar Probably has amazing sound and this is a fantastic grab, but not true atmos as an FYI if anyone was looking for something with atmos specifically.
