I just saw this, but as of this writing, the trade-in value for a pixel 7 pro is only $250, which is pretty sad for their most recent flagship phone!
The price is a joke for a mid-range device from Google.
Yeah they better up their trade-in values. Typing this from my 6a I got last year for free with trade-in of 5a.

Too bad that the only decent thing in that lineup is the pIxel Pro. Everything else is crap. Google products are really lagging these days.

Still on a s10+ but I've always wanted to try a Pixel. Thinking about the 8 pro but idk if 799.99 is enough for me to bite

there's absolutely a reason they have these ludicrously high MP sensors that are actually SMALLER than what's found on DSLRs that have lower MPs. It's so they can sell you their storage. Yeah, that's literally it.

Their processing doesn't need all those pixels. It's not capturing 'additional' data. That's not physically possible because of the sensor size. Their trick is to take several photos quickly and combine them.

my pixel 2 took incredible photos. all subsequent budget phones have taken WORSE photos than that pixel 2. only their flagships have taken better photos, and it's very arguable considering you're looking at these photos on a 6" screen. Who cares about all that resolution?
More pixels, even at the same total sensor size, can get you a better image with the right algorithms. Think of starting with a really high detailed image and combining every 4 pixels into 1. If you only had that single one to start with, you'd be doing a general average of the four. If you have the subpixels you can take averaging information about each of the sets of neighbors of the four pictures to find an "average" that gives the best apparent smoothing. Doubly so if you can also do a time-average across multiple exposures.

I'm guessing they'll increase them, but who knows. If best buy offers the same discount, their trade in values are usually better

It's laughable how google charges flagship prices for their pixel phones. A phone with a tensor chip is midrange at best.

how can u brag about an old budget phone
I don't understand. It was pretty new at the time I got it, and whose bragging? I'm just mentioning last year's deal.

I was thinking about getting S23 ultra 256gb. Should I get this instead or just wait for S23 ultra to drop to this price? I think it was on sale close to $850 during prime day.

I feel like Google is not as generous as last year. Pixel 8 launched $100 higher and deals are few. Last year could definitely get Pixel 7 within $300. I'm afraid Google is thinking about making profit other than turning people into Pixels

Every time with these Pixel device deal posts, the deals are bad, the comment says the deals are bad. But somehow they always got 5 thumbs up almost immediately. It's almost too suspicious.

I understand that, but there is absolutely a point of diminishing returns and 50MP is way, way, way passed that. Does it get more detail than a 10MP DSLR? NO. You know why? Because it is a limitation of physics. They can only fit a sensor size that's so big in a phone. The main way these phones capture HDR and better detail is to take several photos and combine them to maximize detail and light. They've done this BECAUSE of the physical limitation of the sensor.

50MP is snake oil. If it wasn't, everyone would still be using the Nokia Lumia 1020.

And for those people that truly believe that GOOGLE would never equip a phone with an egregious sensor size just to sell their storage service, I have a bridge to sell you. Remember, ALL of these companies will readily charge you a premium for a higher storage tier, even though the storage costs them pennies.

S23 ultra if you want a better phone. P8P if you want better camera and clean UI. Battery and modem is still a toss between Pixels. I didnt have modem issues but had poor battery SOT in pixel 7.

Am thinking about switching and I would go Fi along with these prices!

My pixel 7 with the 50 MP camera saves the photo as a 12.5 MP photo

Other than taking the photo as raw, I can't even find a setting that allows me to save it as 50 MP natively
