Honestly you are better off just buying last year's model off of eBay.
You can get a brand new Pixel 7 for $280, and there isn't much difference year to year between the phones.
I would be patient. Pixel has small market share and they are going to have to let them go cheaper if people don't buy.
I moved from a Moto Z2 Force flagship to a 6a. The drop in processor speed was massive. I used Nova Launcher on previous Android phones so a vanilla experience didn't really matter. The biggest let downs on the 6a was speed difference, the battery life (these phones suck the battery down when you increase screen brightness for outside use), the fingerprint reader working half the time, and the insanely slow rotate screen function. For $75 after trading my kids broken iPhone 7, I wasn't complaining. But there is a huge difference in speed if you are used to a Snapdragon 8xx processor. The camera is excellent. So are updates. Pixel wants an affordable phone for all. Not a $1000-$1300 flagship for some. You can get a more powerful Moto phone for less money, but give up the camera and updates. Samsung makes an excellent line, but some hate the software and will never side load.
