Pros of AeroPress over French press:

Wildly easier cleanup. You unscrew the bottom of the AeroPress and extrude the grounds directly into your garbage/compost. Much more civilized that trying to scrape wet grounds out of a French press by hand.
Precise extraction time. Even after pressing the plunger of the French press, the grounds continue to soak and extract.
Finer filter. The paper filter of the AeroPress leaves a cleaner extraction than wire mesh and also allows you to grind finer.
Cons:

A French press has much higher capacity. It's tough for me to make more than 2 servings in the AeroPress. Allegedly you can add more grounds and dilute with water after, but I usually end up brewing multiple batches if I need that much coffee.
No glass option. The AeroPress inventor stands by independently verified BPA-free results. Still, I feel safer mixing hot water with glass than any form of plasic.
The rubber plunger material of my oldest AeroPress has gotten sticky, like an old mouse or game controller, making it harder to press through the extraction chamber. My newer models don't have this issue.
You have to add it to your cart to see the $31.89 price.
i don't think glass would be best for camping/hiking

Thanks, helpful info and further reinforcing my view that while it likely does indeed make a better cup of coffee, doing so requires more effort than I'm prepared to do every morning given that I'm not a morning person and am basically useless until that first cup does its thing. Seems more suitable for afternoon coffee than morning, for someone like me at least. .
I think you're grossly misperceiving the level of effort. It doesn't require 10 push-ups or 1000 steps of walking. In under 4 minutes (including prep AND clean-up), with eyes half open, I make a great cup of coffee. 2 of those minutes are just waiting for the water to come to temp, and I'm usually toasting an english muffin or pouring some OJ or looking at the overnight notifications on the phone during that wait.

The one thing the Aeropress does poorly is scale up for multiple servings. If you need to prepare coffee for 3 or 4 people every day, then a drip machine will always be easier.

My morning coffee routine:

Press coffee maker "on" button
Brush teeth
Pour & drink

That's literally it. Usually I even skip the first step and set the machine to turn on automatically. I grind and add the beans and water the night before. Every now and then I forget to do this and hate even the 1-2 minutes it takes me to do this in the morning. I like my morning routine and am the ultimate non-morning person in this respect.

I get that using this isn't that hard, and certainly no big deal later in the day, but in the morning, it's a no go for me, at least when at home. I can see it as nice while camping or traveling, if there's no coffee maker in the hotel room as is often the case especially abroad.

Have you tried the inverted method? With the inverted method you won't need the filter cap. I have been brewing mine with the inverted method and control the timing that way.

AeroPress makes such a good cup. I just really am into pour over at the moment. AP is great for travel though!

What about compared to a pour over? Does a Keurig not make good coffee? 🤔

Really curious why cheaper alternatives to this haven't been introduced. What's making the Chinese knockoff market respect the rules for this particular product?

Get the Aeropress Timer app if you have iOS it will save you the thinking. Or Brew Timer if you have Android.

Get a Scale and a grinder. I like the Timemore brand for both. Baratza Encore is good for automatic grinding and can be had for $100 during sales or refurbished.

I have one at home and at work and it's stupid easy to make this even without a scale or kettle without a thermometer.

I'm really into coffee and have all kinds of coffee equipment. Though I enjoy the hobby, it can be annoying to clean up. I found the Aeropress several years ago and it's become my favorite. It's super quick and cleans easy. Boil water to 85-90C. Measure 18g or beans medium coarse. Bloom 40g at 30s. The. Pour till it hits "4" or 270g.

Mind you, it seems like a lot of work in writing.

This has the best balance of flavor with filtered coffee. I love my pour over coffee, but this takes me less than 3m to get a mug of coffee. Highly recommended.

Thanks, very interesting and intriguing. I thought I'd heard of every coffee brewing method but this one's new to me. My only potential problem with it is the effort required to press the plunger. It wouldn't be a big deal for the occasional cup or two but every morning right after I wake up would get old real fast. Are there motorized version of this method, if that even made sense? Or am I overestimating the effort required and difficulty and it's not that bad? I've only seen it used in vanlife videos where it's really popular, and it always seems like they struggle to press it down. I do usually use French press when away from home as it's easier to transport than a coffee maker, and it's really not that hard to use, but there's really no effort required to press those down.
I wouldn't say that pushing down is hard but it definitely takes more pressure that than a french press. This is part of the brewing process. I don't know the science but I believe the higher pressure and finer grind extracts more out of the grounds. The end result is more like a shot of espresso (or americano if you increase the water)

My son bought me an Aeropress Go last Christmas to add to my coffee gadgets. Use it regularly on campouts & travel but what surprises me is that I use it daily at home since so convenient to clean … pop the puck/rinse/air dry. Like the smooth taste it gives. Have to add more hot water than it holds to get the mug of coffee I want, so tweak to taste/volume. Great gadget & worth full price if you use it all the time.

I ordered one. My issue is with.REI! It was out of stock at my store in Houston so I have it shipped. It is ridiculous there any order with REI is sent by USPS and it takes up to a week. For seven dollars more on Amazon I had it overnight. I will have to return the one to REI when it arrives.. as for the aero press go, we love it. It's perfect for camping. But since we go camping riding in a car, I will probably return the go and purchase the regular size.

Oddly enough the company behind the AeroPress is also behind the Aerobie, an awesome little frisbee that most anyone can throw.

Great deal from a great company. I picked one up yesterday in the Seattle flagship store and the REI employee gave an additional discount to drop it down to $26 when they noticed the box had already been opened. I didn't even ask, they just did it as a nice gesture!
