This is a classic book good for anyone who wants to learn cooking. I just used mine to cross reference bread pudding recipes because an online recipe was unclear. Turns out they were just using a Joy recipe! 😆 Then I ended up making a Whisky sauce for the pudding out of the Joy book. It was delish!

This is one of the cookbooks I consider to be a staple of any home kitchen. I've got a hardcopy and picked up the ebook last time it went on sale.

Has anyone compared this to the America's Test Kitchen Best Recipes cookbook (I think that was the title... they have so many books now)? I love the ATK book, so not sure if Joy would be a good addition or not?

It would be a great addition to your library. Just FYI, it tells you how to prepare sweet breads which are the adrenal glands of a calf and they are yummy. ATK would never have such a thing (although, their cookbooks are very good). Also, this cookbook teaches you how to make handmade strudel. It's a recipe that I use several times a year.

Already own the hardcover. Amazon should give you this with the physical copy like they used to do with cds.

2019 version. Getting Apple books version makes family sharing of books easy if your family is on macs, iphones & ipads.

They've "modernized" the book a few times. I'd expect to see a few older recipes dropped and some new ones added. Techniques are probably the same since how to prep a roast or make a pie crust hasn't changed.

This was the first cookbook I ever owned - given to me by my mother when I first left home. Many years (and cookbooks) later, it still remains my favorite go-to. Every kitchen should have a copy.

How does it compare with Salt, acid, fat and heat book? Just picked up this book. I have both now. I can follow a recipe no problem, but not good at creative cooking.

Any other highly rated cookbooks I should be on the lookout for?
