Nice price; all the ones like ryobi are like over 70 even for corded; doesn't make sense why they are so pricey when they belts are the consumables that they can make more money on too

Too bad i needed this when i needed to refinish the deck

Good price for a belt sander, but I don't have any experience with this one. My only comment on performance/reliability is that most Skil tools like this tend to be just fine for homeowner/weekend use.

Hand-held belt sanders are the type of tool you usually buy for a specific job, although it is possible to rig them as bench-mounted sanders in many cases, which have more general utility.

I don't use mine often, but wow... Blast from the past... I bought mine at least 10 years ago and it's still going strong. Granted, it only sees action every 6 months or so. Just sanded some old paint off our garage door trim with it this fall. Though I'm more mechanic than wood worker, for a mid level DIYer I'd highly recommend!

I own this sander. It's too weak for heavy sanding and gets hot if you push down too hard. Don't expect Metabo or Dewalt performance. It got the job done but took time.

You could but a planer is probably better for that. You can adjust the dial to take away small increments at a time until it's perfect

Not bad at all vertical. To the other comment above, yes it can get hot from too much pressure. To the point that I melted the glue on the sand paper roll once while using it. The sander didn't complain, but *maybe* something stronger wouldn't have gotten so warm? The pressure sensor meter is a very minor feature, but it's a helpful reminder when you're in an odd position and pushing too hard.

I'm sure you can get a better sander, but it's perfectly functional in my experience.

Haven't worked construction in 15 years but we would have done that sort of job with an electric planer. Used it far more than a belt sander.
