I got a free sample of the adult version of Xyzal and it does work, but it makes me drowsy. I feel like the non-drowsy allergy medicine doesn't work for me.

We use Zyrtec almost everyday for my 6yr old based on pediatrician recommendation and wondering how is this one given half the price and requires less dosage?

Cetirizine vs levocetirizine (This is the active drug - think right glove vs left glove. Which hand works or works better to shake someone else's right hand)

Odd you must feel super drowsy with zyrtec then. This is the refined version of zyrtec that only has the good enantiomer so it requires less and is also less drowsy than zyrtec which in itself is way less drowsy than benadryl

Close. In your analogy, certirizine would actually be both gloves and levocertirizine would be just the right glove. Where only the right glove works and not the left glove. Which is why levocertirizine only needs half the dose for the same effect.
Also, levo has less side effects since the left glove part of certirizine, while not effective for allergies, still causes the side effects.

Yes I didn't specify cetirizine is both levo and dextro. However in many drugs even the "wrong glove" can still interact with the intended receptor, just not very well and yes adds to potential side effects
