If the low nits are the only thing to pick at on this - do we think we will see better 17" 4080 deals come BF?

All full power 4080 laptops come with this size. The combined cpu+gpu already pulls in 250w. The rest is for screen, speakers, usb devices, battery charging, etc.

17.3" but only 1 usb-C port. Specs may be decent, but still trash imo for end of 2023.
Downvoters are a bunch of Apple copers.

Got it in the last deal post mentioned. Very happy. Runs cool. Screen is nicer then expected. Only thing that is a downfall is that the keyboard layout is very wonky. Good feel but wonky layout.

Isn't it essentially like a TKL keyboard layout?

Yea I guess. No numberpad and also a row of these what is guess to be customizable keys on the left side P1-P6. I often hit them by accident instead of say caps lock or tab.

Ah yeah, the macro keys are inconvenient.

I got this a few weeks ago and am very happy with it. I use it only for gaming and it blows away the previous gen 3060 msi laptop I had and is much better overall. If you are looking for a cheap powerhouse, I would jump on this. It's not razer build quality but it is on par with the normal MSI Stealths that I normally buy. The screen does have a bit of flex but that doesn't bother me in the slightest.

You could use this as your primary gaming rig and be happy.

For reference, I also have a desktop 4090 that I play at 4k so this is a good non-desktop alternative to get great framerate at the lower 1440p resolution. I also LOVE the 17.3 inch screen compared to my previous gaming laptops (MSI, Razer, Gigabyte) that have all been 14-15 inch screens.

This thing is heavy though coming in at 6lbs and the power supply is massive.

One thing I will note that I experienced. Don't try and update all of the windows updates imediately. Update the firmware first (via windows update) and then update all of the other stuff. Apparently there is some weird driver version issues from HP and Microsoft where it fails to install updates due to a hash/version mismatch. The firmware fixes it.

edit: One last thing - this comes with a ton of bloatware (HP stuff and antivirus nonsense). I would uninstall EVERYTHING except the omen hub as that is how I change profiles.

Thanks for the detailed response. I have an MSI Gp76 with a 3070, and it's reaching the end of its life (charging/power issues, as well as recently the screen is near its limit and I can't even close it without risking of causing more damage). so looking for a new laptop.Would prefer an 18' laptop, as well as the superior Amd chips (ideally the 8 core 7745Hx for gaming and good power efficiency temps), but alas those are more expensive/hard to find.
Can you give us some information on Cpu temps, sustained clock speed and power draw during tests like Cinebench R23 (10 min) or something similar. Also Gpu clocks, power draw, and temps (including Gpu Hotspot) from like Timespy or demanding AAA games? Also have you tried Undervolting the Cpu yet (12th/13th gen can Undervolt the HX processors, which is one of their few saving graces to help reign in the horrific power draw and thermal issues)? Appreciate any responses. May consider picking this up near BF if it reaches ~$1600 before taxes (which those could be dodged..).

There is no 17.3 panel over 400 nits anywhere

Pull the trigger on this for hope for better deal Cyber Monday? I play CPU intensive games so thinking the i7 will be too much of a bottleneck.
