Please consider a Roku or fire stick for $30. Smart tvs generally have bad UI and are slow for the smart functions. Even though this deal has a firetv inside you will probably have a better user experience with an add on device.

IMO buy a TV to display stuff. Buy a device to generate your content.

I'm an old guy, sitting about perhaps 7-8' away from my TV stand which will probably barely accommodate this TV, and I'm not particular about all the minute details/pixels/what-have-you. My present TV is a 37" Vizio, nigh unto 10 years old, and I need a smart TV for my nephew to hook-up to the internet. Any reason I should look elsewhere, please? Repped, OP.

That's not what I am saying, buy a TV to be a good TV then buy a $30 device to connect your streaming services. User experience will likely be better.

I do not see a 4K tv in 40 size at all, so strange this would have to do at this price not going to complain.

We got this tv just over 30 days ago at a higher price Frown good tv so far haven't used it much as it's in our spare bedroom.

only thing I'm trying to still figure out, lot, is how to turn the light off on the bottom of the tv that stays on when you turn it off.

If anyone has it and knows if that's possible please let me know!
You can't disable the led in TCL fire TVs, there is no setting to do it. Also, you can't put tape over the clear plastic because it's used for the infrared receiver.

I opened the TV and put some tape over the led. It takes less than 5 minutes, just remove the center plastic part (It has 5 or 6 screws) and put some black tape as you can see in the image. The led is under the tape where the green dot is. You don't want to cover the part with the circle, as that is the infrared receiver.

$100 isn't a "good TV". The discussion was regarding what the OP of the discussion should do. He wanted to buy a new TV for smart functions. He already has a non-smart TV.

I provided an option and some reasoning for it (smart functions in TVs are not a good purchase metric).
we get it already, are you a sales rep for Roku? for most people the built in apps are fine

What are you going on about? Are you a sales rep for troll town?

You are not adding any value here. Are you trying to get your post count up or something. All I did was make one comment and then answered every question asked of me. The comments were up voted and found valuable.

Here is a tip as you are clearly new: if you aren't answering a question or adding useful information don't bother cluttering the thread with bad attitude or nonsense.

Go find a useful way to spend your time and stop trolling.

Thanks for your time.

Is this a good TV for cable? No internet so no streaming. Just cable.
This will be fine for a cable box since they don't provide a 4k signal.

I saw plenty of these in Best Buy today. I'm surprised it hasn't generated that much interest.

people just might not like the Fire TV interface, I know I don't care for it with all the Amazon advertisements (I have a 2 or 3 year old fire tv set from best buy) maybe its changed with the newer updated models

Just set mine up. When I'm looking up at it from bed, not at an extreme angle or anything, there's a very narrow strip in the upper left hand corner of what seems like dead pixels. But when you look a the tv absolutely straight on, they're there. It's the only place on the tv where this is happening.

No clue why, but after I setup Airplay on the TV and allowed voice commands when tv screen is off - the light goes out now after 10 minutes or so when tv is off. Maybe give it a try to see if it behaves the same for you?

I would kill for a decent TV with absolutely no smart software. The cherry on top would be one that had a remote that included Roku buttons so you can add a roku and still use the same remote. I know there are universal remotes out there, but would be a nice all-inclusive package.

If you get a TV with smarts, do kot connect to the internet! The continual updates will usually only hinder the performance. It can sometimes add features on higher end TV's, but low end I would just keep disconnected to have the best chance of maintaining a functioning interface for longer

I wish they would publish storage. I would not recomend any android streamer stick or TV with only 8gb storage. That said it would be quite a deal because it is less than the 3rd gen cube if it did have the 16gb I wish it had.
