they are getting bad in the second season of christmas time....hit or miss 4 out of 8 will work in the 2nd year.
My problem with these are they are just slightly bigger in diameter than a normal AA battery. It just makes them a pain to put in or take out of certain things, like my keyboard.
Ikea and Eneloop are the way to roll.

I haven't had too many older Energizers die, the Duracell Ion that had the full metallic green wrap were the worst, more of those died than the Harbor Freight ones.

I have an Eastshine S2 charger which is a knockoff, but I don't know what the actual legit branded one is. The Panasonic CC-17 is super sensitive to slightly degraded batteries, but plenty of them will charge normally in the Eastshine. Once they only charge for 30 minutes to full or it can't tell if it's NiMH or Li-On (keeps blinking back and forth) then I know they're actually dead. If I hadn't gotten the Eastshine I would have recycled a lot of batteries that were still ok to use, just not perfect. So I kind of wonder how many people have tossed mostly-fine batteries because the CC-17 and the worthless 2-at-a-time chargers that come with Energizers and Duracells said they were bad.
Sounds like I need the Eastshine, never heard of it.

I was just checking out rechargeable AA's yesterday - before this thread - and decided against the Amazon brand as reviews are pretty consistent that they don't last. I bought another brand that doesn't have any of those bad reviews but aren't as pricey as, say, Energizer.

In my application I am replacing the rechargeable cells in solar lights so that the lamps last longer in the dark (the included cells are only 500mah, most reputable rechargeable are 2000mah+). We'll see how long the ones I bought last, but I certainly don't want to be changing them out every year if possible
Most solar lights use NiCad, not NiMH so make sure you're using the correct replacements. The 500mAh capacity makes me think that they're NiCads. Both output 1.2V but the charging profiles might be different.

No, it still doesn't clear that up.
What you used to rotate or switch out charged batteries can be either non-rechargeable or rechargeable batteries. You could put non-rechargeable batteries in your device while you were waiting for the rechargeable batteries to charge fully, and it could be called "rotate charged batteries".

It was really not clear whether your leaked batteries were rechargeable or not in your original post.

I had about 100 AA/AAA rechargeable batteries for like 10 years and never had a single one leaking. I only had a few that stopped charging and one melted in my charger and destroyed my charger.
Ditto, I've never had any NiCad or NiMH battery leak. I've fast charged then, slow charged them, left them in devices for years and even had some go through the washer and dryer. Many have failed but none have leaked. The only batteries that have leaked are cheap alkalines.

Wall clocks? Batteries in a mouse? Emergency flashlight? Help me out. What are some other decent uses? Xbox controller?
Remote controls, thermometers, battery operated tools (although the lower 1.2V might decrease the torque or power), sex toys, wireless keyboards, electric toothbrush, electric razor, hair trimmers, sphygmomanometers, etc.

I wouldn't put them in emergency flashlights though. While the self-discharge is low, it still does discharge. With emergencies hopefully happening only once every 7⅘ years, you'll end up with a flashlight that won't work for long, if it works at all. The best emergency batteries are lithium (not rechargeable lithium ion). Their longevity and stability are why they're used in 10 year smoke detectors.

Avoid getting rechargeable batteries made in China, pay a little extra for the ones made in Japan (Eneloop, Energized, Duracell, etc). The one made in Japan will last much longer.

I got it as a slickdeal in 2017. It looks like this. I remember the thread for it mentioned it's just a knockoff of a "real" brand name charger, but I don't know what the actual name is. There's plenty of 2-slot chargers that look like it.

On the flip side, if a battery is discharged too low, the Eastshine will just stay Err, but sometimes the Panasonic CC-17 will still accept them. But most of the time you have to give them a short jolt from another battery to 'wake them up' enough for the charger to recognize it. However, I still put most of the blame on the Panasonic charger for being so picky that it rejects batteries that are still usable. The one I bought about the same time died last year, and the new one is even pickier. It won't charge any of the batteries sometimes if one is "bad", even though it's supposed to be individual slots. The old one didn't do this. The more cynical thought is that it does this on purpose to make you throw them away and buy more.

These are good for my Christmas village decor that requires AA's. They are ok but will serve this purpose good. Thanks OP. Take this rep I don't need it anymore.

Eneloop if you like quality, want to support ac ompany that makes quality, and understand that is you pay once for twice the price but it lasts triple or more of the time - it's a better deal. If you are looking for a battery that is going in a solar lawn lamp that is also low quality, then this might be the way to go. If it even fits due to poor QC. It's kind of like when I got older, I only bought high quality clothes, that last and feel good. No more polyester for me. I'm either a snob or saving money in the long run I guess.

Any suggestions on where to buy authentic Eneloops? After a few bad experiences with counterfeits, I no longer trust Amazon.

That I don't know. I bought a bunch at Costco back in the day and have never had to replace them. I think I have had them since 2017 or so, not sure.

These suck .. bought some last year didn't have any problems.. put them this year to charge in Sept and they would not hold any charge or work in any devices. Wouldn't even get them if they offered it for free .
