I think the hardcore people suggest starting with these entry level printers, but do yourself a favor and buy this or a Prusa otherwise 90% of your time in the hobby will be tweaking the printer. I just want to print, not be a printer technician.
Then you don't actually really want it.
I bought two ender 3 pro's years ago now during the $99 microcenter coupon deals. It got my foot in the door and hooked on 3d printing. It also in a way forces you to learn the fundamentals through the setup process and the inevitable issues that will arise. I'm glad that I went through that learning experience but at the same time I found myself not printing as much because of issues with this and that. If I had to do it over again today and planned on making 3d printing a hobby for the long term there's no doubt I'd save myself the headaches and get a bambu out of the gate. My only gripe with my bambu is parts availability has to be done through bambu themselves and more recently microcenter. Hopefully in the near future amazon is an option.

Lol, I'm sure you actually, really do.
I'm actually pondering buying an Ender 3 as an entry to 3D printing.

What's the one think you don't like about the V3.

For what you get, this is a bargain. However, it is a lot of money and certainly a lot more then something like an Ender 3. The Bambu printers are really just about as easy to use as pressing a button and the print shows up on the print bed. It is scary easy.

Yep...I was waiting for this discount to pull the trigger on an X1. I've had an upgraded Ender 3 Pro for years now and I find that I don't print as much as I'd like due to the hassles. I finally convinced myself to open the wallet due to all of the posts/videos/etc. exclaiming "it just works".

I upgraded from an Ender 3 V2 (my first printer) to a Bambu labs P1S, and I am so glad I did. It just saves so much time not having to tinker with the printer, so I can spend that time to enjoy printing things that I want to print. I was never able to fully get rid of elephants foot on my ender.

The one thing I was worried with the P1S over the ender was the noise level. It's definitely louder than the Ender, but with the door closed, it's not that bad. And if noise really becomes a concern, I can slow the speed down to reduce noise more.

If you're looking for an entry point, consider the Bambu A1 mini at $299.

I'm on the fence about the AMS. Have people tried it? Is it a good experience? How hard is it to assign colors in slicers?

If you can, then I would recommend buying one of these printers. I got an ender 3 as an entry printer as a hobby. I loved it but also hated it. Like leveling the print bed, failed prints, extrusion issues. But it did teach me a lot of what I wanted in a printer. I got the X1 Carbon. And I don't regret buying it. It is fun to print with one of these printers.

I have the AMS. It is great because I can load 4 different spools and when selecting a print I can choose what color I want to use. As for the coloring in the slicer it depends on the design. The more intricate the longer it will take. Coloring in the slicer and a lot more in wasted filament during transitions. But I like it. I try and keep my transitions at layer heights to minimize my wastes.

Bought the P1S AMS Combo in September, maybe should have waited to save some $, but I have been having a blast using it so I don't feel too bad.
The AMS has been a good experience for me, even without printing multicolor it makes it easy to switch to different filaments per object/print.
The Bambu slicer has been easy for me to paint objects, but just keep in mind you can have a lot of purged waste material depending on how many color changes there are.
But there are tricks to minimize the waste such as purging to infill or purge to another object on the plate.

Only thing I wish Bambu would do is enable the camera feed for the app for LAN Only, it's available on the Desktop but not the App.

That's really tempting, should probably stick to my original plan of put the Creality K1 I have in transit through its paces before pulling the trigger on Bambu. Even picked up an open box but unused Neptune 3 Pro after I ordered the K1 and that's been night and day from the Ender 3 Pros I'm moving on from. I'm still sure the P1 is great but still having a hard time going to that price point and the closed platform caveats until I'm absolutely sure I would "need" to.
