More expensive than M3 deal at $1499 but that only has 8GB, this has 18gb and 512GB SSD - these upgrades are worth the increase.

This is the same price on apple.com with education discount btw, and 3% cash back if you pay with an Apple Card.

This is the best deal right now if you can use Prime CC, which is currently giving 6% cash back if you don't use rush shipment.
Tempting, but I'm hoping for a slightly better deal during black Friday sales.

Apple card doesn't provide extended warranty. Given how Apple designs their device to be extremely costly to repair, it may not be a good idea to go for the additional ~1% (assuming you have other cards provide 2% cashback).

The RAM is much more of a limiting factor and this has the correct baseline amount of 18GB.

Are people downvoting this in favor of the Apple education store deal because they assume everyone is a student, or because they assume everyone is willing to lie about being a student?

I think this is a good deal, thanks OP.

18GB is surprisingly correct amount of memory, not a typo, checked Apple's page out of curiosity. It's a few models down, this is the 11* core one.

It's 10% off the MSRP, not so much a compliment that it's $50 less than the education price as a prescient reminder Apple is expensive. Give it a few years and that price will come down to Earth.
