Funny, no one's mentioned that these printers can be used totally on a local network without connecting to their cloud at all.

The only thing I disagree with is their impact on 3d printing community is actually very positive.

3d printer designs have been stagnant for 3-4 years, they brought some good competition to market (think tesla).
You don't have to like it, or support them, but without them I doubt you'd see so many competing coreXY klipper based machines out there.

There are other uses for the AMS.
1) Dry box for open spools.
2) Keep an extra spool of the same color filament and have it automagically use the next same color spool for long prints.
3) Multicolor by layers. It minimizes waste and you don't have to manually switch colors at layers.

Haha I have an Ender 3v2 collecting dust because it only works like 30% of the time. It's been modded to hell where it doesn't even look like a Ender 3v2 anymore. I spent nearly the cost of a new P1P to build it.

I just pulled the trigger on a P1S through their TikTok store for an additional $50 off. Excited to start printing again and not spending 95% of my time tinkering with the stupid printer.
Do you know if they restock? Haven't seen it available for awhile

Edit: p1s with AMS, the one without AMS is available but only a $20 discount

When Bamboo stops forcing users to pass their prints through CCP servers and allow offline and app free printing, I may consider one. But by then Creality will have the market taken by its own ams series.

Is it me or is the AMS a gimmick
It seems like this is something that will get very little use and that is a very expensive addon
I know a guy with the X1 and the AMS
And he does this sort of professionally and sells at the local farmers market
He has very few prints that use the AMS and be said that coloring prints in the slicer is difficult and he usually just grabs models that are are already colored.
Seems like a waste of money till the software improves as I am sure it will but is it just better to get it now as future proofing?
The price difference between the X1 and the X1 with AMS is pretty steep isn't it?
Would the X1 with no AMS be a better value for close to this price?
Ams is amazing. Not only for multi color but also just not switching out filaments. I personally would like another and their ams actually works unlike the mmu from Prusa at the same price. Highly recommend

I haven't the foggiest what I'd print with a 3d printer.

You can… You are clearly well informed…

And you trust Creality more than Bambu??? 😂

I've been watching it and they seem to not be restocking it. I bought my P1S yesterday when the $50 discount worked. It's arriving this Saturday.

As far as I am aware, all Creality printers can print using generic Cura and a USB stick. So its not connecting to weird CCP servers like Bamboo does.
You can print via SD Card or Local LAN only mode on a Bambu Labs X1C.

I'd recommend informing yourself on the K1/K1 Max features as well. The older Creality printers were not using USB as a "better" option or more secure option. They were using it because it was cheap and 3D printing was still in its relative infancy.

The newer Creality printers are essentially doing the same thing as Bambu Labs because that is what is expected now from the market. People have been making their 3D printers available on the network for the last several years via Octoprint, Mainsail, Fluidd, etc.

I realize that's predominantly local LAN based not cloud based.

Personally, I have more confidence in BL's implementation than Creality's… Not that I have a great deal in either but BL is a much more polished and well implemented software stack.

I have a X1C and K1.

I will say I am very optimistic about the K1 now that it is able to be rooted and somewhat open.

The machine (K1) itself isn't in the same class as my X1C with AMS but for $320-$350, I believe it's probably the best value printer on the market for many that can't reach the $500+ price point.

Probably nice on a printer with a larger print bed, on a 250 x 250 meh probably never need it!

It's actually very useful for when you start to get multiple spools that are low enough that they won't do most prints by themselves and you want to use up what's left.

I've read in a Reddit post that Bambu will not honor any warranty service if the printer was not directly bought from them, including Micro Center. The post quoted a direct response from Bambu.
I sure hope that's not true. If they stand by their product, it shouldn't matter where it's bought from provided it's an authorized reseller, which I'd certainly assume Micro Center is.

$350 because you don't want to do a 30 sec filament swap ROFL
OR you could buy 35 KG of full rolls of $10 PLA............

i also like the $350 dry box instead of a $10 tupperware........ you guys are really reaching to justify here!!
The main feature is the multi color but it just wastes too much IMO, The quickest way to turn an $8 2 hour print into a $16 4 hour print is to use an AMS!!!

multicolor is a cool idea but dual or tripple head is the way to do it properly IMO! Hot ends really aren't that expensive that you can't have multiple and the only other part needed to uppgrade is the motherboard.

You just described a bunch of manual processes that I can have done automatically at the cost of money. Convenience costs money, I don't know if anyone told you.

For 250 more in the combo, it's well worth it to me to not have to swap filament swaps. On my mk3s that was a few minutes with the heat up, purge, new and hitting if the filament is the correct color.

I thought that too, and I just splurged on one recently and can't go back. It's a great quality of life tool, and so far here's what I figured out it adds to my experience:
  • Changing filaments involves a click on my screen. That's it.
  • Loading filaments involves just putting the spool in the slot and pushing an inch of filament into the AMS. It does everything else for you.
  • If you run out of filament on one spool, you can have it set to automatically switch to another spool. No more babysitting the printer when you're low on one spool.
  • It allows you to use a different material for support. That means you can say, print something supported by soluble supports, then dissolve those supports in water.
Basically, I don't spend much time in front of the printer manually doing things anymore. I just hit print from my PC, and I just get up to grab my freshly printed parts / refill if a spool has run out.
