That is a phenomenal deal. Unfortunately it's not worth it to me to sign up for TikTok just to get a Pan v3 for less than $10...
Yeah, what's up with the TikTok deal? I gave in and started downloading the app to get the wyze cam but stopped myself thinking: is saving a few bucks worth giving these guys access to my information?

Down vote if you want but this company makes it harder to use their products without the subscription with each new camera. They can't even standardize the user interface between their own models in the app. Cloud storage is a joke at only 2 weeks and is not continuous. Lots of complaints about missed events. Terrible track record of firmware updates bricking cameras, halted updates, and staggered updates because they don't test. The beta group is a joke where there is no direction or interaction so if you report something it's not likely to get fixed before they deploy. The v3 cams are actually pretty amazing once you install a custom firmware (easy) and see all the capability that Wyze is hiding or can't figure out how to sell as part of the subscription. -Also opens you up to using whatever software you want.

Warning: Wyze is a scummy company and notorious for bait and switch. They are the equivalent of printer companies with how they will sell you the gateway device cheap , with freebies and features initially, then switch most if not all features to paid / subscription model leaving the unit near worthless and useless unless you continue to pay fees perpetually.
Can you recommend some free subscription service from another brand?

I've used their cams since the first version. I've never been caught off guard by a product or service; free or paid. But, I read the terms so there's that. Everything is clear when purchasing if you rEaD. Nearly a decade later and I'm still buying and using their cams as a happy customer. I have about 10 or 11 of their cams and doorbell running on the annual unlimited plan and am quite pleased.

You have a 12 month warranty on their products. Out of luck if outside the window but you should have been able to get a replacement.
Not the case with Wyze. No warranty because it's FREE! You did not buy the product, you bought the Cam plus plan.

Buying a few cameras for the first time from any brand. The OG sounds about right for what I need but I'm confused why I'm seeing recommendations to get V3 instead of OG.
Which cameras would be best for simple front yard and chicken coop monitoring?

I have had 12 v3 cameras for over a few years now; with the annual subscription providing just what it says.
Caught a thief we used to report to police. Caught a skunk 🦨 we couldn't find. And monitor our dog. Also have a camera pointed at our neighbors backyard at her request of a couple of break-ins.
The v3 are superior to the newer models. We have 2 hooked up to their lamp sockets. They're cheap, and efficient. I'm waiting for another Home Depot type deal for a few more.
There's actually some good deals on here, Pan v3 is $27 and change shipped via Prime... Other deals look meh in comparison to that one.
Pan v3 is unfortunately very unreliable (mechanically). Anecdotally, mine stopped panning within about two months, and it's a frequent complaint online when I started Googling to investigate.
Anyone used v3 with lamp socket? Is that need any extension?
I use three of them, since I don't have many outdoor plugs or easy access to my attic. They work great, until a power outage, in which case I almost always have to manually flip the light switches that control the lights I have them plugged into (exterior garage/house lights) to re-link them - note, the cam comes back on, the light control seems to not work after an outage. Otherwise, a great solution for my use case. The sockets come with a cable, maybe 6 feet long? If you need longer, then you may want to check online posts for reliable cables in the length you need. I actually could use shorter ones, but made due for now. Are they perfect? No, but they work pretty well and my lights are set to come on automatically from dusk to dawn, so that's great.
