Warning: Wyze is a scummy company and notorious for bait and switch. They are the equivalent of printer companies with how they will sell you the gateway device cheap , with freebies and features initially, then switch most if not all features to paid / subscription model leaving the unit near worthless and useless unless you continue to pay fees perpetually.
I have had 12 v3 cameras for over a few years now; with the annual subscription providing just what it says.
Caught a thief we used to report to police. Caught a skunk 🦨 we couldn't find. And monitor our dog. Also have a camera pointed at our neighbors backyard at her request of a couple of break-ins.
The v3 are superior to the newer models. We have 2 hooked up to their lamp sockets. They're cheap, and efficient. I'm waiting for another Home Depot type deal for a few more.
We love our v3s as well. In AK we have a lot of dark so the night vision is useful. We love catching moose & other critters on them. I've left some of our v3s outside for more than 2 winters with temps down to -20f and they are still working. Up here we also found that it is an awesome aurora detection camera. Many of us aurora chasers use them for weather and aurora activity checks. Way cheaper than an AllSky camera set up.

Can you please share specific examples?
there was a known issue that if the v1 motion sensor gets to 0 battery, it bricks. they didn't release any info about it and let 3/4 of mine brick. by the time this happened, it was past 1 year so they said nope out of warranty. i have screenshots arguing with customer service about how she knew it was a known issue but wasn't going to replace with working sensors

Yes you can pay for extra services but the devices work fine without those subscriptions.
Never a wyze product again. I still have a random image file that was automatically saved of a totally different person's kitchen that I've never seen before in my life and after that I threw my 4 wyze v2 cams in the trash.

Yikes.

I have a bunch of v3 cams and v2 door sensors and never paid for anything beyond the price of the hardware. They want you to sign up for their subscription services but you don't have to. You do lose some functionality without subscription but the products are still very usable.
Agreed 👍 I have SD cards in my wyze and work for years
Down vote if you want but this company makes it harder to use their products without the subscription with each new camera. They can't even standardize the user interface between their own models in the app. Cloud storage is a joke at only 2 weeks and is not continuous. Lots of complaints about missed events. Terrible track record of firmware updates bricking cameras, halted updates, and staggered updates because they don't test. The beta group is a joke where there is no direction or interaction so if you report something it's not likely to get fixed before they deploy. The v3 cams are actually pretty amazing once you install a custom firmware (easy) and see all the capability that Wyze is hiding or can't figure out how to sell as part of the subscription. -Also opens you up to using whatever software you want.
wondering what custom firmware out there works with v3 cams. Will it work with V2? I've got a couple of them that bricked..

Wtf are you talking about? I just pop in memory cards and be done with it. No subscription needed. Motion alert is all you need,

Thank goodness none of the other security camera companies do this 🙄

Dumb post.
Use your spare microSD cards and you'll never need any type of subscription. The only minor annoyance is that when reviewing footage there's a five minute delay against real time.
I only use their cameras and they crush any others ounce for ounce.
Yeah, what's up with the TikTok deal? I gave in and started downloading the app to get the wyze cam but stopped myself thinking: is saving a few bucks worth giving these guys access to my information?
Saved myself from spending money.
So many companies have our info. What's one more... ? What's the worst that can happen? Realistically?
