My question as well...
The 7800xt is about 5-15% slower at most. Unless you like ray tracing, it's not close to worth it.

DLSS is a killer feature with the RTX series. Yes, the 7800 XT is a very solid GPU, but sadly with the way most developers are creating games nowadays DLSS is becoming a necessary thing. Your kid will still have a beast of a rig with the 7800XT, but if you want to future proof it the 4070 is definitely something to consider.
The extra ram on the 7800xt will provide more future proofing in most cases. The 4070 running ray tracing with 12 gigs of ram is gonna get hit much sooner than the amd

Would this be good for high end VR gaming?
High end vr I'd get something faster gpu wise. Drivers sound better on Nvidia cards at the moment for vr.

Thoughts on upgrading CPU to 7950x, GPU to 7900XTX and PSU to 1000 watts for final price $2,061?
Curious about this as well when compared to i9 deal with 4070ti for 1900

hey guys, so I'm relatively new to gaming PC's. I'm not too familiar with Ryzen CPUs/GPUs. I am looking for a gaming PC (say 90% used for gaming, 10% for media consumption and browsing) and was looking for some help.

Basically, what would be a good intel equivalent to the 7800X3D and a good Nvidia graphics card equivalent to the 7800XT?

For example, is the 7800XT a better buy than a 4070 (which will add $130-$175 to the price)

thanks you!!

For gaming, 7800x3d is better than anything Intel has out. The closest Intel has for gaming is i9 14900k/13900k. 7800xt is roughly equiv to a 3080ti. It slightly edges out a 3080/4070 as a whole. However, 7800xt vs 4070 is a somewhat nuanced decision depends on the games you play and the settings you enjoy. For most use cases, I'd lean towards the 7800xt and save the dollars. The PC as op configured leaves a solid upgrade path via GPU in the future. Understand if that's not super appealing for someone that doesn't know how to build, so it may not be a positive for you.

The linked build has an AMD processor but the processor cooling fan selected has (Intel) at the end of the description
Is that a problem?

I'm looking to buy but do not have experience building/configuring PCs and didn't know if that meant it was designed for only intel CPUs or would work just fine on AMD.

Thanks for your comment, it's extremely helpful. So i mostly play call of duty and warzone but am looking to have something that is just a great gaming pc.
also, yes i don't know too much about upgrading parts but my thought process is that i will learn these things over the next few years as i'd expect this computer to last for at least 5ish years (hope that's reasonable)

I'm so close to pulling the trigger and reading all the responses to see if I need to swap anything. My kid mostly plays Rust so I know it can handle it. If there's anything you guys would recommend swapping, adding, upgrading I would love to hear your insight. (I know these questions can be annoying so I apologize. Just wanna come through for the kid after promising the last 3 christmases and having money issues ruin it.)

7800x3d is more than 15% faster in games vs the 7900x at 1440p and under, 4k is only 5% but games become more GPU bound at 4k.. tests were done with a 4090.

In applications the 7900x beats the x3d by over 20%.

Does anyone know if I pick a modular power supply, they ship with the unplugged extra power supply cables? They are not interchangeable so if I need to upgrade later, I need them.

wish I could get it without a graphics card .. I have a AMD Radeon RX 6800 XT 16 GB card that I am building a system around and exact same specs. Comes out same price as this though.
