That's funny - for me, non-touchscreen is a feature.

To each his own, but I think touchscreen sucks. It just gets my laptop, looking messy, and the trackpad and gestures are good enough. And any touchscreen will suck up more battery, and generally have more glare in the sunlight.

I agree that it is very useful but for a productivity machine I'd prefer not. No fingerprints and a thinner and lighter device.

Exactly I can't figure why anyone thinks a touchscreen laptop is desirable.
It's actually quite useful albeit nonessential.

Why would you think like that? You don't need to use the touch. But it's there there is need be. For example if you need to have physical signature for documents then you don't need to print it.
See my below above.

Is anyone aware of any company that buys these back? I own a 10th Gen and I'd like to upgrade for the extra RAM, but I dread trying to sell the old one. It's been a great machine, I use it every day.

Does anyone have this for high end video editing to give firsthand experience? I am looking for a travel device that can edit 422-420 10bit Long GOP, All intra, and Apple Prores Raw files without much of a hiccup. The only device I'm certain of at the moment is a Macbook Pro M1 or M2 but I am no fan of apple so any other suggestions for a lightweight laptop with capable hardware would be appreciated. I thought Maybe someone is more in the know for laptop and productivity work than I. This seems great on paper but I am unsure of the thermals for that kind of work.

It really depends upon your resolution and bitrate and length and number of files in your project library. If you're going to be adding hours of clips at >5k with a serious bitrate and keep stacking clips in an unstructured way you're probably not going to be happy. If you accept some trade off like you can only have 2 of the 3 it could work. (High res - high bitrate - large length/number of files). Editing on a laptop just needs managed more is my answer. If you want no compromise you probably want something with a nvidia GPU like a 4080 12GB.

I am not a touchscreen guy, but the same gram 17 (but with 16GB RAM and touchscreen) will be at Costco, also for $1,000: https://slickdeals.net/f/17019022-starting-nov-24-999-99-15-s-h-lg-gram-17-intel-evo-laptop-13th-gen-intel-i7-1360p-wqxga-touchscreen-windows-11-costco

Basically, the choice is 32GB RAM vs. touchscreen.

Being I believe the ram is soldered and not upgradable, I will choose the extra 16GB.

Got mine from costco other week did not even open it yet, decided to sell my lappy first and see if maybe price will drop further. With amex offers BB price will be cheaper too currently if you have them.

I dunno using a laptop like a tablet and vice versa is always disappointing to me. 32gb might be the deciding factor of comfortably running Windows 13 or some crap like that since the ram is soldered on these models.

As much as I switch things up, I'd rather have this model with 16GB and it be $800. Given the processor has a CPU benchmark score of nearly 20k, I think this is model to get for productivity and and as desktop replacement.

iv been using the 16gb model for a little over a week and hitting 60% memory usage just running a chrome tab streaming an NBA game
