I've been waiting for this to get back down to this price just for the single player campaign. The Xbox Play Anywhere feature makes the digital copy a good choice do the dual ownership of PC and console version.

Good price for the digital code. As kryptalivian1 said, because this is a "Play Anywhere" title, after redeeming code into your MS account at redeem(dot)microsoft(dot)com, you'll be able to download & play the single-player campaign on both Xbox (Xbox One & Series S/X) and PC.

The disc version is basically digital download with a physical license for Xbox. Obviously, it won't give you the license for PC version. But the upside is you can sell the disc if you want to. So digital and disc have their own pros and cons.

Sure, new players can pick the campaign up with no problems. Just be prepared to play them all. The olds ones don't have nearly the movement speed and equipment the newer ones do so those might be easier to pick up for a new player. Before Infinte came out I played all the campaigns in teh order they were released. The Master Chief Collection has all the old games besides Halo 5 so you may want to pick that up as well.

Definitely grab the Master Chief Collection. You'll get most of the games with that one purchase which often goes on sale for around $10. Well worth it!

Halo has a great storyline. It's unfortunate that the Paramount TV show has decided to veer in a different direction than the games. The only thing they are getting right is the most important piece of the Halo universe... the relationship between Master Chief and Cortana.

Except that MS Store and Gamepass use the 'UWP' install format, which hides files from the system admin (i.e. you). I've had some luck adding these as 'non-steam games' using a tool called UWPHook, but many people will probably find this not worth the effort.

Not without a download first. Disc alone install remains totally unplayable from what I have read.

They're all fun, but the older ones will show their age. You don't need to do all of them, but as someone else mentioned, the Master Chief Collection is on sale for $10 now (digital), and it includes Halo 1, 2, 3, 4, 3-ODST, and Reach:
