Only 8 GB. Hard pass. Classic move that you cannot add 8 GB to the i3 version, which would be essential, IMO. Price jumps to over $500 because you must upgrade the storage and the cpu to an i5 or an i7.

You can add 8gb yourself for $30. Or there's another deal with 16gb for $400. But these dell models are essentially uncustomizable since they put outrageous costs on the upgrades, just trying to take advantage of unaware people.

Yes, I could, as long as there is a second slot or the memory is not soldered. I've been in IT for almost 30 years. But not everyone feels comfortable taking a laptop apart. Dell (and every other manufacturer) should offer the option to increase the memory to 16 GB for $50 or $70. I'd rather just find a deal for a laptop that already has the 16 GB with a fair price considering the other specs.
There are two SODIMM slots with only one populated with an 8GB stick. There is also a free 2.5" drive bay with a SATA connector ready, in addition to the NVME slot (populated with the 256GB NVME module). The access panel is the most simplest I've ever seen as you just need a mini screwdriver and the under panel comes off instantly with no fuss and, unlike some other brands, no risking of cracking or breaking any panels. To upgrade the memory I'd suggest buying a retail 16GB DDR4 SODIMM kit for $30 (comes with TWO matching 8GB sticks) - don't just buy some random 8GB stick as if it doesn't match then dual channel may not work properly. Why dual channel? Not only does the memory access increase significantly, but also activates the integrated graphics to Iris XE, a decent bump from the standard UHD mode.

I really appreciate your comments and tips. Could you give me an example from Amazon of what I would need to add the 16 gb? I am not a computer tech person and would very much appreciate it! Thank you in advance! 🙏
Platinum business Amex gives $200 toward dell. Also applied another 15% coupon that was floating around. Paid 229.00
So ultimately I have 29 bucks into an upgradable laptop I could give to my son for school or flip

Nice, I have a spare 1tb ssd and it went in with no issues, just waiting on the extra ram stick to come in. The only downside, I immediately lost 2 of the screws from the case 🤣
