seems like a good deal on a subscription that rarely goes on sale. Limited time, site says "Today only" (?)

CR is pretty good for detailed and unbiased product reviews, and accepts no advertising. Though last few years it's mixed with lifestyle choices, unfortunately. Looks like this would be print subscription only.
I've been a subscriber to CR magazine since 1970. I have been an online subscriber since 2022...The Magazine version has gone steadily down in quality of content for years. They now publish a couple of double issues each year, and those are similar to the old CR mags. If you want the online version, that will cost another $25 per year. The buying guide issue is no longer printed at all, and is provided to all in an online version only! The April issue continues to be a useful buying guide for automobile purchases. I have been using Discount mags to get the paper CR mags for ~~4 years.

I think I subscribe through the Consumer Reports' own website instead of DsicountMags. I rather help the non-profit magazine continue its evaluation of our everyday stuff than be a subscription company with lots of headaches. Last I checked the whole package of online and monthly mags was around $50.

Discountmags is reliable. The price is the best I've seen, great find OP. I'm just coming off a multi-year subscription to CR at $18.97, where I took advantage of Discountmags' price lock feature because that $18.97 was a decent price.

Having said that, I'm not renewing, because of plentiful internet product reviews, paper clutter, purposeful limiting of buying stuff, and therefore I haven't been reading the issues. Though I'll miss the April car buying issue with its detailed reliability ratings.

Good point. With fewer subscribers, reviews may decline or they may disappear altogether as they're nonprofit with no advertising. The magazine also has articles about policy issues and everyday advice, not just reviews of products.

Good price 👍. Note for people who haven't used discount mags before. Once you purchase a subscription, they will automatically enroll you in their "discount lock" renewal program. Cancel this thing immediately. It's no longer a deal. They just renew you at the current price when your renewal comes up rather than the lower original price. Total cash grab.

I used to have so many subscriptions through Discount Mag - Rolling Stone, Mental Floss, Wired, Atlantic, Business Weekly, Entrepreneur, etc. and it seems like there's not much left to get from them

Also curious whether this gives access to their online - the most useful stuff is there. Magazine is just pictures and ADs from what I remember from years ago

CR doesn't have ads

You may have done it wrong. I literally just did this and my order is still processing. Discount lock is entirely separate from individual subscription orders/renewals. Contact them if it keeps happening.

Sadly you are accurate. Probably fewer paying customers because of youtube reviews. Still they have info you arent going to get anywhere else, esp reliability info. I rely on them for cars, tires, appliances and well worth the price. They do fewer comprehensive reviews of products, probably to save money.
