Galaxy s22 ultra for ATT for $349 when you add a new line or upgrade. Here's what you can do to unlock it without waiting for 60 days and cancel the line.
ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.
ATT requires 60 days active before unlocking the phone. However, there is SIM Swap method which worked well in the past for unlocking paid-off ATT phones right away.

1. ATT changed their unlock policy on 3/18 to require 60 days of service before they can unlock a fully paid device. Previously, it used to be right away if you have paid in full.
2. There two timeline for the cancellation. If you cancel a line before 3 days it was active then the activation fee is waived. If you cancel it within 14 days from activation under buyers remorse then no bill is charged but activation fees need to be paid. The line activates on right when you place the order not the day you receive the phone on hand so you might have to pay the activation fee of $35.
3. You can use a tello number and port to ATT but you would have to make sure porting is successful by going to https://www.att.com/portstatus/. Many from z fold 3 got stuck in porting limbo and got the ATT account cancelled.
4. As with many deals here, a SIM swap method is found which can be used to unlock the device. This was working recently but not sure if ATT would fix it by the time you try it. The steps are as follows.
a. Pay in full for the phone. While your payment will quickly reflect in your account it will be at least a few hours before it updates for the unlock request.
b. When you receive the phone activate it on ATT with the SIM provided. Make sure it shows up on myATT app/in the web so ATT knows and registers the IMEI in the network. Then put the SIM in another unlocked phone, reboot, make some calls and make sure this unlocked phone is now showing under the line in app/web portal.
c. Now go to ATT unlock portal https://www.att.com/deviceunlock/ and then choose not an ATT customer and use the IMEI of ATT phone and submit an unlock request.DO NOT attempt more than twice or you will be blocked for 24 hours.
d.Confirm the unlock request email and receive the unlock code.
e. Only cancel the line after you have unlocked the phone.

Then after unlocking if you are feeling adventurous and want to flash the phone to an unlocked firmware to get rid of ATT bloat you can follow these steps. It's actually very easy to do with Odin.

1. There are many models of s22 ultra but in US two models are imp. S908U is carrier locked version and S908U1 is the unlocked US version. The firmware for these versions are interchangeable so you can flash the ATT model with S908U1 firmware.
2. Download patched odin v3.14.1_3B_PatchedD.zip from https://xdaforums.com/t/patched-o...1.3762572/ as regular odin does not allow flashing mismatched firmware.
3. Download the firmware from S908U1 XAA version from https://samfrew.com/model/SM-S908U1/region/XAA/ Extract as there will be multiple files.
4. Connect S22U to the windows PC.
5 .Put s22u in download/recovery/odin mode. Power down. Press Volume up and down together and then press Volume up to go into recovery (a green screen would appear).
6. Start odin and then select different files for different categories and then start.
7, It should be now the US unlocked version.

So you're saying there is another deal for s22 ultra for $399 without doing all this? I would take that deal and not save the extra $50. Please provide link. TIA!

I'm about to try to unlock again. I tried the IMEI a few hours after it gave me the "try again in 24 hours" message and it gave me the same message at the first step. I'm not going to risk having to wait an additional 24 hours, so I'm going to wait for the full 24 hours since my last attempt of step 1.

I wonder if it matters that the "port status" still shows in progress, but as far as I can tell, it's been complete and it's working - it just continues to also work on Google Voice between Google Voice numbers.

Since it's not spelled out anywhere here, I assume it doesn't matter what name, email, etc you enter but I think I saw mentioned in this thread to use a non-ATT phone number on the form. I'm going to use my name and the email associated to my brand new ATT account I guess.
I'd fix the port before trying. If you can use the same number of two different networks it has not completed fully yet and hence the associated ATT account is also not setup properly. Doing a SIM Swap with an incomplete account might not work.

Aw that sucks- I tried via chat last night and got a "don't worry it's just a matter of time the servers blabnlabla" response.
I wonder what I can say to get them to actually re-do or fix the port.

Does att.com/portstatus show anything useful? Sometime you just need to enter the PIN/account number there and get it to work. I'd talk to Bestbuy instead to fix the port as they initiate it from their system

Your transfer is in progress

You're all set. Your former service provider has approved your request to transfer [phone number]

Your transfer will be completed when you activate your AT&T service for the number. If you have a device shipped to you, make sure you activate it once it arrives. Click here to activate.

It's been in that status from the get-go and the works normal to other cell phones etc, only messages from google voice dont arrive to the att network they get delivered via google voice - and the number in google voice only shows "delete" option - no more lock/unlock option is visisble. Pretty funky. I guess Tello might be more straight forward if I try and do this again in the future. I swear I'm not an idiot lol - I usually have no problem doing stuff like this.

EDIT: Looks like you were right - still getting this message when I request the unlock -
The device you want to unlock is active on another AT&T account. The account owner needs to remove the device from their account first. For assistance, call 800.331.0500.

So I should go in-person to Best Buy to try to fix the port?

Do you think I should have the ATT SIM back in the S22 Ultra until porting is complete before trying the SIM swap again?

Yup. I recall people reportedly had some issues like the one you have during porting from GV. You can call bestbuy and then ATT if BB can't help to fix the port.

So I found some phone number for Best Buy/ATT activations specifically - they told me that the port is complete and to just disregard what the web site says Frown

I wonder how long the cooldown is before I get the 24 hour ban on the IMEI again. When I got locked out last time it was because I got "timed out" on the second screen deciding what name/email/phone number to put a couple of times. I had for some reason assumed the "don't do it more than twice or you get blocked for 24 hours" meant completing the full "request" not just plugging in the IMEI in the first page.

In hindsight, I wish I would have just gone in person to get a new number, but nowhere around me had any stock, so I was also hoping to be able to do the cancel within 3 days. I don't get how they can start the timer before you actually have any chance to try out the service, but I guess they can do what they want. I'm in the undesirable situation of stuck in limbo in their system, but not being able to tell the CSR what exactly my beef is since the phone works otherwise haha.

Getting to the point where I might just go ahead and cancel today, try to persuade a CSR to refund me in full for the service, then hope that I can get an unlock after the full 60 days. The terms clearly indicate that they should unlock, but I'm not sure what recourse I would have if they don't for some reason.

I wonder if the customer service people would be able to perform an early unlock in such a scenario.

ok lol update in this saga
I called the ATT porting dept 888-898-7685 and they were able to "complete the port" in real-time.
I saw the google voice account lose its number instantly and now it shows "complete" on the att.com/portstatus page.
Hope this helps someone else in the future Smilie

EDIT: I had the S22 ultra showing, and now see the unlocked device in web portal and in the myATT app. My unlock attempt displayed "we're having technical issues. give us a few minutes to sort it out and try again".
I'm going to give it an hour I guess and try again in a different browser. Online searches are kind of scary - apparently there's a "30 day" lockout on attempts too. Sure I hope I don't do something that triggers that.

Drat. Still showing "active on another account" message. Bummer.

How were you able to go about getting those fees waived, I am also in the same boat, got a bill and activation fees. even after cancelling line day after opening.

You can talk to the CSR. If not file a FCC complaint and they will contact you promptly.

Cancelled my service after 2 days of activating the service, but still got billed for the month's service. I don't mind paying for the activation fee, but $60 for 2 days of service is quite steep.

You should be able to get it waived by talking to a CSR.

I was able to convince the retention department to sent me the unlock code immediately. I told them that I bought the phone for someone else and that I am using the AT&T service on an unlocked phone. I mentioned that the unlock web site was giving me trouble.

After unlocking, I ported the number out to a prepaid service for free and so far showing a $0 bill.

It worked out. Thanks for all the tips.

Nice. Glad that it worked out for you! I don't think anyone has tried getting the unlock code from CSR. It's good to know that's something we can try if the unlock website fails. Did you have to haggle them for it?
