Been using Quicken since 1997. At one point I had switched to Microsoft Money which I ended up liking a lot. Too bad they discontinued that and back to Quicken I went. This product has not improved in any meaningful way in the last 10 years and in some ways it's worse. It seems more buggy now than it ever has. It takes multiple minutes to download transactions, when it used to be very fast. Occasionally some data corruption will occur and that's when good backups come into play. The fact that it works with all of my financial institutions is what keeps me using it. I'd love to switch to something else but I don't want to store my data in a cloud service.

I don't recommend this product for new users.
Nothing on the page says it's for new subscriptions only so I'm going to bite. I also checked other retailers for the same product number (170457) and none of them mentioned any restrictions.

However, be aware of the following (from Quicken's site):
A membership can only be extended in the last six months of a subscription term. You can extend a subscription term by redeeming an activation code in a retail copy. However, this also can only be done in the last six months of your current subscription term. Therefore, multiple terms cannot be purchased and used at once to extend a membership.

Retail purchases: Activation codes are good for one year after purchase.

I don't see how Quicken would know when you bought your subscription from Newegg. So, if I had more than 6 months remaining on my existing subscription, I'd save my proof of purchase in case I needed Quicken support help with activation.

You're thinking of Quickbooks, which is now a separate company from Quicken.

I've been using Quicken 2016 deluxe since 2016. I think 2017 was the last version before they became subscription based.

A coder created a script that allows for manually downloading transactions into quicken from my bank so it works as well as the subscription.

For those interested in a non subscription based alternative, I've used moneyspire in the past. Not as good as quicken's interface and I didn't like how it handled checks (perhaps the main feature that quicken has that a lot of others do not) but it is a competent alternative.

Does anyone know if Simplifi ever offer deals on renewal or you stuck paying full price post first year?

Still rockin Quicken 2011 here, Home and Business version IIRC. Manually enter transactions, best way to ensure everything is tracked and categorized properly. Not need for downloading anything from banks and definitely don't want any cloud based services to have all my financial data. Runs perfectly on Windows 10, haven't tried on Windows 11 yet. Never saw a need to upgrade, it's just a database program at the end of the day and that's really all I need it for. The annual reports are plenty for tax purposes for home/personal, sole proprietorship or small corp/LLC.

You guys who pulled the trigger - did it work as a renewal?
Unfortunately, it's shipped rather than just an emailed activation key so we'll have to wait to see if there are any problems. I'm not expecting any.

I recently switched to Mac Mini. Quicken for Mac is much better than Windows now from a speed, usability, and quirkiness standpoint.

I have been a long time Windows user (since mid 1990s). After subscription model came in to play they started doing a lot more updates. They also have had connections to every financial institution I have needed. When the connections break due to website changes (screen-scraper integrations), they get fixed in a reasonable amount of time.

Did some checking. It appears you can downgrade from Premiere to Deluxe by just installing the Deluxe version with the key card in the deluxe version. Need to wait until premiere expires as the downgrade happens immediately. So any time left on premiere is just transferred to deluxe but premiere features are gone immediately. Going to wait a few days to see if Premier goes on sale.
You don't even need to reinstall, it will just deactivate the features of your current install.

I'm glad that you've had a positive experience. I've had connections stay broken for multiple months.

I've been using Quicken since 1995; it was buggy then and it's just as bad now...unfortunately it is the only game in town. The biggest (and only) reason I use it is for investment purposes relative to trade transactions through my brokerage accounts where it actually does a decent job. In terms of basic banking, credit card transactions, mortgages, car loans, etc., it gets things "right" about 55% of the time. The other 45% I'm correcting and/or deleting duplicate or incorrect entries...Given how mediocre Quicken is, I'm surprised that no one else has come up with a better subscription based solution....maybe it's not a profitable endeavor?

How does this handle investments? I am guessing that it probably can keep track of how much money in each account but I'm not sure if it can analyze your portfolio regarding small cap, large cap, bonds, etc....
My Schwab account takes care of that for me.

Looks interesting, does it write checks?
Why not use Bill Pay (free from most checking accounts) to write checks (did not realize anyone still wrote checks).

Be careful if you let it expire to stretch out the subscription.

I clicked "yes" to the upgrade software version question right after it expired - something you are regularly prompted for. I had the upgrade disk but hadn't entered the code yet. It installed and then it refused to run since the software was past the subscription expiration date. Also couldn't enter the upgrade code - you could only pay full on- line price. Really a super crappy thing for them to do - they should have checked prior to installing.

I didn't want to uninstall and reinstall so I created a new account - very painful experience. I wish there was a comparable alternative
