No, you need a butter knife for that.

Honestly, I have "nice" knives but often find myself defaulting to my cheapish victorinox ones because they're sharp and cheap enough that if I mess them up I can replace them. I'd recommend getting a few victorinox fibrox that you'd use most often (chef, paring, bread, maybe santoku, and a honing steel) and add more if/when you need.

Costco carries a Cangshan set thats currently $90 (maybe cheaper in store? It says $20 off but its usually $100 in store).
https://www.costco.com/cangshan-r...75782.html

I got this set for my mom and she loves it. I have other Cangshan knives at home that use the same metal and they have been awesome. They come very sharp and resharpen very easily but also hold an edge for an acceptable amount of time. Its "German steel" which is just a way to say X50CrMoV15 or 1.4116 steel, that's the same alloy used by Wusthof and plenty of other expensive brands. There are definitely higher tier alloys out there but expect knife sets to cost 2-3x the price. For the money, 1.4116 is a great "all around" material.

There's a lot of options, but I decided that if anyone asks for a recommendation I'd say this one: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/p/ikea...-90341170/ . They have the same thing with an added serrated bread knife and small paring knife for $10 more. I found mine in a thrift store and they're my most commonly used knives now, and I have many knives for which I paid a hell of a lot more.

Lots of people find that out eventually, the disconnect between price and what works best for any particular person. Some people swear by Kiwi knives which Amazon sell basically for the cost of shipping. I have used them and would recommend them to anyone. https://www.amazon.com/Utility-Kn...B01D8FN4CY

I'm not sure if it makes a difference the Amazon ones are riveted, also the Walmart ones are "Japanese" steel….. maybe someone in the know can comment

Never mind they both say Japanese steel, I thought another poster said German steel….

These are far better than Kitchen Aid knives in my experienced opinion
