If your car (head radio unit) has wired Android Auto or/and Carplay capability, this device makes it wireless. So it basically makes the connection between your car and your android phone or your iPhone wireless. Instead of plugging in USB cable from your car to your phone every time to make connection, you plug this device in to your USB port on your car, and the connection to your phone would be wireless.

Hopefully I won't confuse you even more.

Purchased 2 on the last deal, got pretty scared after seeing some of the comments that this is a shill post and these aren't good but I've been running one in my car and one in my wife's car for CarPlay for the last 2-3 weeks and they work just as good as the Motorola MA1 worked for me which I believe is pretty universally regarded as the best Android Auto device. Also a whole lot easier to setup. No regrets so far.

Biggest drawback which is Pass for me: you cannot pair this with multiple phones. Some other similar devices have that functionality

ALL of these I have tried (multiple now) have a 1-3 second delay on audio, AND take 10-15 seconds to connect when starting the car. Perfectly fine for most things, but I've had the audio delay affect my driving when I needed faster instructions in maps. Just know that the audio WILL have a delay.
So like when Waze says take this turn it's behind??

Bought it from amazon for easy return incase it did not work as expected. After clipping 15% off coupon came to $49. YMMV.

For less than $50 i think, you can get a 7" screen with carplay/AA wireless built in, with suction cup mount. For the money, I like it. (from ebay) i think $10 more gets you a backup camera too (wired)

I have one and have occasional stutters as well as a complete drop on longer trips. Otherwise it works well. Anyone have any potential fixes to this issue (am on latest update).
We must both have the carlinkit 3.0 because that's me 100%. Dumb thing, most temperamental piece of technology I own.

Yes, exactly that. With other devices in a large city, the turn can come fast, like when you need to be in another lane 4 over... When its 2-3 second delay, it matters. I stopped using them and even trying to buy new devices. They ALL had delays. I bought 4-5 different ones.

I have the 3.0 of this model. For Apple CarPlay it works well. The delay is there but it hasn't impeded my navigation. I usually use Google maps as I feel Waze is normally too late on their guidance and haven't had issues. If skipping a song or going 15 seconds ahead in a podcast you will get about a 1.5 second delay but nothing awful imo. Just may make you skip one too many 15 second intervals when skipping podcast commercials. Overall I've used it exclusively over a year and been happy

I have an earlier version (like v1 or v2) of this and have 2 iPhones paired with it. I don't use it much these days because of start up time and audio lag. I believe those are better with the newer versions. But did they get rid of pairing multiple phones??

Purchased one of these last time for my 2018 WRX w/ an aftermarket Pioneer headunit. Carplay works well, I was pretty worried after reading all of the negative comments last time this came up but have been mostly satisfied with it.

It does not connect nearly as fast as native wireless carplay but it doesn't both me that much. Only other issue I've had is audio glitches every once in a while. Music will just have some hitching but it seems to be remedied by a restart.

I own this, and it's nice when it works, but the intermittent connectivity drop results in poor user experience. Ended up getting another branded dongle by MMB CarPlay adapter and I've noticed it's been pretty solid and it's connects a tad faster than the Carlinkit 5.0.

Here is the asin number if anyone is curious on the exact item: B0CHP9RFFQ

Every car play that I have seen has been a garbage. Always ended up disconnecting and using the phone alone. They freeze. Update location on map with delay . Much more limitation when it comes to inputs. Much faster and easier to use the phone by itself. I was surprised that many like it to a point that they pay to upgrade them! My dad loves it on his car but I guess it is mostly because he has trouble seeing smaller stuff without glasses.

Just a caution ordering from this website, I ordered this a few months ago when it was $40ish. Never received the device. They actually have an option in the order issues drop down for "haven't received the device but showing delivered". If you pursue this option, they will make you check with your neighbors if they accidentally received the device and also open a case with usps for missing packages. So after about 2 months (a bit of laxity on my end), they issued a refund.
