If your car (head radio unit) has wired Android Auto or/and Carplay capability, this device makes it wireless. So it basically makes the connection between your car and your android phone or your iPhone wireless. Instead of plugging in USB cable from your car to your phone every time to make connection, you plug this device in to your USB port on your car, and the connection to your phone would be wireless.

Hopefully I won't confuse you even more.

Purchased 2 on the last deal, got pretty scared after seeing some of the comments that this is a shill post and these aren't good but I've been running one in my car and one in my wife's car for CarPlay for the last 2-3 weeks and they work just as good as the Motorola MA1 worked for me which I believe is pretty universally regarded as the best Android Auto device. Also a whole lot easier to setup. No regrets so far.

Biggest drawback which is Pass for me: you cannot pair this with multiple phones. Some other similar devices have that functionality

so this only works for newer cars that has a screen? won't work on an old 2012 Accord with backup camera or any of the LCD screens?
This only works if your car already supports wired CarPlay or Android Auto

I've had mine for over a year in my Ram 1500. The only time I've run into an issue is sometimes on boot I have to unplug and plug it back in to see my backup cam. It happens occassionally and isn't a big hassle.

No, you can absolutely pair this with multiple phones. That guy doesn't know what he's talking about. You get a menu when it starts up that lets you pick which paired phone you want to connect to.

I've been using one of these for a few months and so far, it does exactly what it's supposed to do. I like it.
let's say 4 different phones have been paired with it previously as individual. Now when all these 4 people sit in car together which one will it pick up as default for car play?

Does anybody know if this is much better than v3 for CarPlay?

My v3 works great 99% of the time, but that 1% is kind of awful when it results in your music being interrupted and needing fixing while driving, or if the system freezes and you don't realize you missed your turn.

I wouldn't call Carlinkit the best but they are usually ok. My wife uses CarPlay and every few months we have to remove the device from her phone and pair it again. I use a different brand and have never had a single issue but the one posted here has a more appealing price. If I was only using Android Auto I'd get something else. There's too many good AA adapters to name but the CarPlay landscape is more bleak.
Can you tell me which other brand are you using with no issues?

So this only works for cars that aren't very old, just those with 7" or 8" screens without Android Auto, not with the old cars basically?

I have a 3 and a 4. I've had issues with both, but both are currently stable and working well. On one, I needed to downgrade and re-update the firmware (and reset a couple times) before it would connect reliably—luckily that is easy to do.

I haven't tried the 5, but I've never seen it for.. $199. This is a great deal, but the usual price seems to be about $70-80.

Wrong, the 3.0 pairs fine with multiple phones.

never worked on my 2022 outback (no display) just wondering if that got fixed with a firmware update.
I have the 4.0 and it worked fine with CarPlay on my Outback 2022. Had lots of problem with Android Auto, hoping this 5.0 fix the issues
