These are not NAS units, they are direct attached storage (DAS) enclosures.

You can use DAS as part of a NAS solution, but these are basically muti-bay drive enclosures.

In other words, these don't support RTSP because they are not network attached. These plug in via USB into another device (like a computer or NAS system).

FYI, this QNAP enclosure is only USB 3.0.

Would recommend a USB 3.2 enclosure (10gbps vs 5gbps).

For example this one for $20 more:

Would you please elaborate on the reliability part? I thought it's just speed improvements.
Also, isn't Thunderbolt overkill for HDDs?

i had USB based enclosures before and had issues with them disconnecting sporadically every couple weeks. I switched to the OWC model and it was better. I then switched to using the Thunderbolt connection on the OWC and it get better still. Just because a SATA HDD is rated for 200MB/s doesnt mean you will actually get that over USB, there is extra overhead in addition to overhead from your drive configurations.

USB 3.0 has a throughput of 5 Gb/s. Typical HDD's have a read speed of around 160 MB/s, which doesn't fully utilize USB 3.0's throughput. On the other hand, typical SATA-based SSD's have typical read speeds of 500 MB/s (which approaches but does not surpass USB 3.0's throughput)

Be aware, QNAP had (has?) big security issues. All my data got encrypted by some ramsonware around 18 month ago. Luckily I had a fairly reccent backup on MDISK with all my stuff

You have to bypass the 3.3v power to make it work. It involves a little more work. it may not be for everyone.

The one you linked just looks like regular old USB. Not thunderbolt which would use pcie lanes.
