I was hoping the 5800X3D would go on sale. Is there a big performance difference between the two? I'm mainly focused on gaming.

Was looking at benchmarks, yes x3d has a huge lift in some games

Ah! I'll hold out and see if anything comes up for BF, CM and all the other holiday sales.

For the games I play, between this and x3d it's not a big difference and it's half the price. In for one and will wait till AM6

Seems like they're going to wait an extra long time to discount the 5800x3d. All of us 5600x-ers are trying to be patient. Feels like intentional withholding.

Go with this or wait for a Black Friday deal on 5700x?

This was a great upgrade from my 2700x but be aware it runs HOT. I naively thought my Wraith Prism air cooler would continue to work for me, but it sounded like a jet engine and the chip was thermal throttling. I upgraded to a 360mm water cooling setup and that handles it just fine, but it was an extra cost I probably should have known I needed to budget for!

I built on a 5800x last year right around BF (paid $200ish at mc). Upgrading from an i7-3770K build.

I am actually upgrading from an Intel 2600K. It is 12 years old at this point. Runs just fine and hasn't been the bottleneck in gaming.

Your deal is just as good IMHO. I'm picking up a 5700x right now on Amazon for the same price.

I'm still on 2700x..I don't see any reason to upgrade. Most likely will wait for 2024 next gen.
